Summary A description is given of a gas coulometric procedure for the determination of hydrogen in inert gases. Hydrogen is titrated with the aid of oxygen introduced electrochemically into the gas stream. Calcium oxide-stabilized zirconium oxide ceramic serves as electrolyte. The determination of the equivalence-point follows gas potentiometrically, likewise with employment of zirconium oxide ceramic. The procedure was employed for the determination of the permeation of hydrogen through the walls of a nickel membrane in the temperature range of 180–350° C. Additional employment possibilities are pointed out.
