Abstract The electron density ne ahead of an intense shock wave in air has been measured by means of an ultrahigh-frequency resonance probe. It has been shown that the results obtained with this method are in good agreement with results obtained with normal probe techniques. The rate of diffusion of the electrons in the zone ahead of the shock wave has been measured by means of electromagnetic induction.
