Notes: As the field and application of mechatronics grows, Engineering and Vocational andTechnical education must grow with it to meet the needs of industry. This paper focuses on thedesigning of a mechatronics courses for industry. University-government-industry and PrivateCompanies have collaborated in a project and shared responsibilities and tasks. In this article, we describe our experience in running mechatronics courses for Engineers, HigherTechnician and Technician Courses in Ankara’s industry since 2001.We also describe an industryuniversityco-operation model, training of trainers, the designing of a mechatronics laboratory andcourse in accordance to the expectations of industry, setting up the feedback mechanism of keepingquality of courses, developing projects financing and management methods

Notes: The formation of borides in an Al–3 wt.% B alloy produced from reaction betweenaluminium and boron oxide (B2O3) has been investigated. Melting and cooling experiments werecarried out to explore the growth characteristics of aluminium boride crystals. During heating upto1300 oC boron dissolved into molten aluminium and subsequently cooled to form solid aluminiumborides in the aluminium matrix. At room temperature boride particles was identified as AlB2.Although, AlB12 phase is the first phase to form directly from the Al-B liquid above 1000 oC whichtransforms to stable AlB2 crystals by a peritectic reaction during cooling. Scanning electronmicroscope (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques were employed. Results showed thatthe shape and distribution of the borides are dependent on the cooling conditions of the liquid Al-Balloy

Notes: The purpose of this article is to design a mechatronics system to measure fluid frictionlosses in a specially designed fluid friction apparatus. It measured fluid flow rates by using venturitube and orifice plate, and velocity of fluid is calculated in terms of flow rate and pipe diameter.Friction factor (K factor) of some valves and fittings such as tee, elbow, Y Junction, gate and globevalves and friction losses in pipe was measured in this system. It is one of the best methods tomeasure losses in pipes and fittings experimentally. It used a computer, data acquisition cards, pressure differential transmitters, venturi tube andorifice meter to measure the flow rate, pressure drops on flow rate measurement devices andpressure drops of some valves and fittings to be measured K factors. It also measured thetemperature of fluid by using J type Thermocouple.A computer program is written to calculate the Reynold number of fluid, friction factor of pipe, velocity of fluid, frictional losses of fluid, flow rate and K factor of valves and fittings. Requireddata was received from measured quantities. The conclusion of experiments is shown in article.Volumetric flow rate range was determined 0-1 (L/s), while the pressure drop was 0-100 kPa inexperiments

Notes: The marriage of computer, electronic technology and traditional machining disciplineshas given birth to revolutionary new disciplines, Mechatronics. Therefore Mechatronics requiresmechanical, electronic and computer knowledge together. The main aim of this article is to presentthe mechatronics approach for desk-top CNC milling machine design. Construction of computercontrolled (CNC) Machine differs greatly from that of conventional machine tools. This differencearises from the requirement of higher performance levels. Machine Structure, guide ways, feeddrives, spindle and spindle bearings, measuring systems, machine control unit, software andoperator interface, gauging and tool monitoring should be considered as mechatronics approach.Servo motors, motor drivers and motor control unit were used in this CNC milling machine to makeit flexible and easy programming. Ball screws were used to X-Y –Z axes to eliminate backlash ofthe slides. Non-contact home and Limit switches were used to prevent possible damages againstover travels. Necessary torque and power have been calculated to select the motors by taking careof the load, ball screws, motor inertia and required cutting tools and etc. and developed CNCmilling machine has been tested several times for reliable machining of machine parts
