Description / Table of Contents: Summary 1. 45 years ago the intravenous glucose tolerance test (GTT) was inaugurated. Because of his more accurate certainty the GTT has greater advantages than the different kinds of oral glucose load. 2. This advantages are to unlock provided that the excesses of blood glucose levels during the GTT are included into the calculation but not the concentrations of blood sugar superior to zero. 3. Proceedings of evaluation of the standard sizes of glucose kinetics related to the miscible pool are given and the results in healthy children and adults are tabulated. The dependence of kinetic values upon the advancing age are pointed out. 4. Taking a diabetic as model there is shown the procedure if glycosuria occurs during the GTT.
Notes: Zusammenfassung 1.

Notes: Summary The pharmacokinetics of mexiletine, a Class I antiarrhythmic drug, was investigated in 6 healthy volunteers after single oral doses and 15 min intravenous infusions of 3 mg/kg. Cimetidine and ranitidine are commonly used H2-receptor antagonists, which interact adversely with many drugs, e.g. inhibition of the metabolism of Class I antiarrhythmics such as lidocaine and quinidine by cimetidine. To investigate the effects of the two drugs on the kinetics of mexiletine, cimetidine 800 mg·day−1 or ranitidine 600 mg·day−1 were administered orally for one week. Neither H2-receptor antagonist altered the distribution and elimination of mexiletine, nor did they affect its overall kinetics, or excretion of the metabolites para- and 4-OH-methylmexiletine after oral and intravenous administration of mexiletine.

Description / Table of Contents: Summary The actions of papaverine, pilocarpine, adrenaline and 2,4-dinitrophenol on calcium content and 45calcium exchange of the smooth muscle of the guinea-pig taenia coli were studied. Papaverine (10−5 g/ml) increased the 45calcium uptake and the 45calcium loss of the preparations, but did not change the calcium content and the inulin space. 2,4-dinitrophenol (10−4 g/ml) had similar effects on the 45calcium exchange, but in addition increased the inulin space. Adrenaline and pilocarpine (both 10−5 g/ml) had no effect on calcium content, calcium exchange and inulin space.
