Notes: Relationships between leadership behavior for first- and second-level managers and several measures of employee performance and satisfaction were investigated in a state school for the mentally retarded. Four leadership dimensions and a modified fifth dimension, all from the Leader Behavior Description Questionnaire-Form XII were used. Three of these measures were highly intercorrelated and were combined into a “Considerate Influence” dimension. This dimension was significantly related to a number of employee criteria at the first managerial level and about one-fifth as many criteria at the second level. The other two leadership dimensions had very few significant relationships. Second-level leadership in combination with first-level leadership in a number of cases significantly increased relationships for Considerate Influence beyond separate treatment of first- and second-level leadership, while such was not generally true for the other leadership dimensions.

Notes: How much the English Law, in the present day, is indebted to the Roman, appears to be still a point on which writers differ. Professor Stubbs, in his edition of “Documents Illustrative of English History,” holds that the debt is slight; or, at all events, that few remains exist, in modern times, of laws that had their origin in the days of the Roman occupation of Britain; while Mr. Finlason, in his preliminary essay to the last edition of “Reeves' History of English Law,” argues, on the other hand, that we derive much of our system of jurisprudence and many of our present laws from this source. M. Guizot holds the same on behalf of the origin of the old French laws.

Notes: [Auszug] IN the experiments reported here, plasma of density approximately 4 1010 ions/cm3 and mean ion energy 1 keV trapped in a magnetic mirror has been found to escape by a rotating flute instability within 6080 pisec. When hexapole cusp-like fields perpendicular to the mirror field were added, the ...

Notes: The type of surface of the perforated plate influences the performance of a perforated-plate column. Pilot plant data on a 4-in column for the system toluenediethylamine-water at 20°C. show that when the water phase is dispersed and the direction of mass transfer is from the continuous toluene to the dispersed water phase polyethylene plates give a continuous stream of droplets and a higher efficiency, but that when the direction of mass transfer is from the dispersed water to the continuous toluene phase the metal plates give the higher efficiency.
