O2-Aufnahme wurden bei 9 jüngeren (28,5±2 Jahre) und 11 älteren (66,2±6,1 Jahre) gesunden Erwachsenen in Ruhe und während einer stufenweise ansteigenden Fahrradergometrie im Sitzen, die bis zur subjektiven Erschöpfung durchgeführt wurde, untersucht. InRuhe unterscheiden sich alle Parameter nicht signifikant zwischen beiden Gruppen; gegenüber Kindern [16] und Jugendlichen [14] ist Noradrenalin höher und zeigt eine direkte Beziehung zum Lebensalter. Während derErgometrie auf gleichen submaximalen Stufen, (entsprechend einer gleichen physikalischen Leistung), unterscheiden sich Adrenalin, die Herzfrequenz und O2-Aufnahme nicht zwischen beiden Gruppen, Noradrenalin und Lactat sind bei (150 und) 200 Watt bei den älteren Probanden signifikant höher; Noradrenalin zeigt auch während Belastung eine direkte Beziehung zum Lebensalter und oder zur abnehmenden Belastbarkeit. Beimaximaler Ergometrie, (entsprechend einer annähernd gleichen maximalen biologischen Leistung), sind Adrenalin, die Herzfrequenz und die O2-Aufnahme in der Gruppe der älteren signifikant niedriger als bei den jüngeren Personen, Noradrenalin unterscheidet sich nicht zwischen den beiden Gruppen, die Belastbarkeit ist bei den jüngeren (296 ± 40 Watt) um 50% höher als bei den älteren Probanden (204 ± 35 Watt). Adrenalin nimmt in Beziehung zu Noradrenalin mit dem Lebensalter ab, es werden nicht mehr die maximalen Konzentrationen jüngerer Personen erreicht [14, 15, 16], dasVerhältnis Adrenalin zu Noradrenalin von1:4 beim Jugendlichen erreicht den Wert1:10 beim alten Menschen; dienoradrenergpressorische Regulation überwiegt somit bei älteren gegenüber eineradrenerg-zirkulatorischen bei jüngeren Personen. Ältere Menschen erreichen nicht die maximalen Lactatspiegel jüngerer Probanden; als Ursache ist eine geringere Glycolyse und bevorzugte Fettoxidation anzunehmen.
    Notes: Summary Adrenaline, noradrenaline, lactate in the blood, heart rate and O2 uptake were examined in 9 young (28.5±2 years) and in 11 elderly (66.2±6.1 years) healthy adults at rest and during a graduated bicycle ergometer test (sitting position). The ergometer test was carried out to the point of subjective exhaustion.At rest the parameters between both groups show no significant difference; compared with children (16) and juveniles (14) noradrenaline is higher and shows a direct relationship to age. During the ergometer test at identical submaximal levels (corresponding to an identical physical performance), adrenaline, heart rate and O2 uptake show no difference between the groups. Noradrenaline and lactate are significantly higher in older subjects at (150 and) 200 watts; noradrenaline shows a direct relationship to age during exercise and or to decreasing physical performance. During maximal ergometric exercise (corresponding to a close identical maximal biological performance), adrenaline, herat rate and O2 uptake are significantly lower in the group of elderly subjects than in the younger group. Noradrenaline levels do not differ between both groups; the maximal physical performance is 50% higher in younger subjects (296±40 Watt) than in the older (204±35 Watt). Adrenaline decreases in relation to noradrenaline with age, the maximal concentrations of younger persons are no longer reached [14, 15, 16]; the relationship of adrenaline to noradrenaline of 1:4 in younger subjects reaches the value 1:10 in older persons. Older subjects show with that a noradrenergic — pressoric regulation, younger persons show an adrenergic — circulatory regulation. Older subjects do not reach the maximal lactate level as in younger persons; the cause for this is assumed to be a lower glycolysis and preferred fat-oxidation.

    Notes: Abstract We have investigated the basic spectroscopic properties of Cr3+-doped gallium garnets. Weak crystal fields (Dq/B=2.39–2.55) lead to broad4 T 2→4 A 2 fluorescence in the 700–950 nm range depending on the chemical composition of the crystals. At room temperature the4 T 2→4 A 2 transition is homogeneously broadened, whereas the 4 K spectra of the2 E→4 A 2 transition show inequivalent Cr3+ sites and inhomogeneous linewidths of 8 cm−1 in these laser crystals. From 300 to 4 K, the oscillator strength of the4 T 2→4 A 2 transition is reduced by a factor of about 0.6 due to the temperature dependent electron phonon coupling. The transition probability of the2 E→4 A 2 transition correlates with the energetic position of the4 T 2 level, which is admixed into the2 E level via spin-orbit coupling. The comparison of the2 E→4 A 2 phonon sideband structure in garnets of different chemical compositions allows the assignment of some peaks to GaO4-tetrahedron modes of the garnet structure.

    Notes: Abstract We realized, to our knowledge for the first time, laser emission in Pr:GdLiF4 at seven wavelengths: 522 nm, 545 nm, 604.5 nm, 607 nm, 639 nm, 697 nm, and 720 nm. The crystal was pumped with an excimer laser pumped dye laser at 468 nm. All laser experiments were carried out at room temperature. We also achieved pulsed room temperature laser oscillation of Pr:KYF4 at 642.5 nm pumped at 465 nm wavelength.
