Notes: Beams of high-energy heavy ions (Ar and U) from the UNILAC accelerator have been used to excite rare gases at pressures near 1 bar. The dominant spectroscopic feature observed in Ar, Kr, and Xe gases was molecular excimer emission at the second excimer continuum at 130, 150, and 170 nm, respectively. The excimer radiation was studied as a function of time (with respect to the excitation pulse), ion-beam current, pressure, and excitation density. The efficiency of excimer production from heavy-ion-beam energy was found to be several percent. Details of spectral shape, especially the ratio of first-to-second continuum emission, were found to depend on pressure and exciting beam type.

Notes: Specific inhibitors of the membrane-bound dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DP IV) and polyclonal antibodies against this enzyme were used to investigate the relationships between DP IV activity and the production and action of T cell-derived lymphokines. Production of interleukin 2 (IL-2) and gamma interferon by mitogen plus phorbol ester-simulated mononuclear cells Bran human blood was found to be reduced in the presence of N-Ala-Pro-O-(nitrobenzoyl-)-hydroxylamine, epsilon-(4′nitro) benzoxycarbonyl-Lys-Pro, and anti-(DP IV) immunoglobulin in a dose-dependent manner. Moreover, the proliferative response of mitogen-stimulated mononuclear cells to IL-2 is impaired in the presence of DP IV inhibitors. Therefore it is suggested that the membrane peptidase DP IV is involved in the induction and activation of cytokines controlling lymphocyte proliferation

Notes: Abstract The perturbation of the 197 keV transition angular distribution in F19 was investigated by time-dependent spin rotation measurements following excitation with a pulsed beam. The recoil implantation technique was used to determine the internal magnetic fields for F19 in Fe, Co and Ni lattices. The results are:H HF(F19 in Fe)=+(95700±500) Oe,H HF(F19 in Co)=+(59500±1500) Oe,H HF(F19 in Ni)=−(21830±350)Oe. The temperature and field dependence of the effective fields was studied. Strong satellite fields due to lattice perturbations were detected. The half life and the gyromagnetic ratio of the 197 keV 5/2+ state in F19 were redetermined asT 1/2=(80.2±0.5) nsec andg=+1.436±0.007.

Notes: Abstract The Mössbauer effect of theγ rays from the 74.5 keV state of Dy161 and the 80.7 keV state of Dy162 has been investigated. From hyperfine splitting patterns the magnetic moments μ(75 keV)=−(0.39±0.04) nm, μ(81 keV)=+(0.74±0.08) nm and the quadrupole momentQ(75 keV)=+(1.4±0.2)b have been determined. For the odd neutron nucleus Dy161 an effective spin g factorg s, eff=0.76 gs, free is deduced for the 75 keV level.

Notes: Abstract The Mössbauer effect of the second excited state of theK=1/2 rotational band in Yb171 at 75.9 keV withI=5/2 was studied to determine its magnetic moment μ=(1.01±0.01)nm. This value agrees well with the one predicted by the previously determined magnetic parameters of theK=1/2 rotational band, confirming the adiabatic separation of intrinsic and rotational wave functions.

Notes: Abstract The nuclearg-factor of the 2·083 MeV-state of Ce140 has been determined as:g=1·11±0·04 This value suggests the interpretation of the level as the (g7/2,d5/2)4 two proton shell model configuration. The investigation implies an integral measurement as well as a time dependent differential measurement (spin rotation method) of the rotation of the 329 keV-487 keVγγ-angular correlation in strong external magnetic fields. Liquid sources of lanthanum nitrate solved in 3n HNO3 were used in these experiments. Some cerium (IV)nitrate was added to make sure that the 4f;-electronic shell remained empty after theβ −-decay. This prevented paramagnetic effects. Additional runs were performed without adding cerium (IV)nitrate and finally by using liquid sources of lanthanum chloride solved in 2n HCl with some iron (II)-chloride added. It was expected that the Fe++ ions would reduce the primarily formed Ce++++ ions into the Ce+++ state. The Ce+++ shell is paramagnetic and enlarges the effective magnetic field at the position of the nucleus by about 36%. As no definitely faster rotation could be observed, one has to conclude that the ion reaction Ce+++++Fe++⇒Ce++++Fe+++ takes more than about 10−8s. The half life of the 2·083 MeV state has been redeterminded asT 1/2=(3·41±0·04)·10−9s. Differential measurements of the angular correlation of the 329 keV-487 keV cascade as a function of the time delay showed that perturbations by internal fields were very small. The coefficientsA 2 andA 4 of the angular correlation and the attenuation parameterλ 2 were determined from measurements with sources of the first type as:A 2=−0·105±0·003A 4=−0·001±0·002 andλ 2=(0·0065±0·0040)·109S−1=(0·032±0·020)·λ A comparison with the theoretical coefficients of a (3-4-2)-cascade shows that the multipolarity of the 329 keV radiation is a mixture of 99·83%M1 and (0·17±0·03) %E2.

    Notes: Abstract The nuclearg-factor of the 2+ rotational state of Hf178 was determined by a measurement of the rotation of the angular correlation between the gamma-group of ∼1350 keV and the 93 keV radiation in an external magnetic field of 49550 gauss. The result is: $$g_R = + 0 \cdot 356 \pm 0 \cdot 035.$$ Liquid sources of 21 days W178 (ammoniumtungstate in aqueous solution) in equilibrium with 9.3 min Ta178 have been used for these measurements. Differential angular correlation measurements showed the existence of a strong time dependent attenuation. The observed attenuation parameters are: $$\begin{gathered} \lambda _2 /\lambda = 0 \cdot 85 \pm 0 \cdot 23 \hfill \\ \lambda _4 /\lambda = 0 \cdot 74 \pm 0 \cdot 10. \hfill \\ \end{gathered} $$ The true coefficients of the angular correlation between the gamma-group of ∼1350 keV and the 93 keV radiation were derived as: $$\begin{gathered} A_2 = + 0 \cdot 330 \pm 0 \cdot 047 \hfill \\ A_4 = 0 \cdot 990 \pm 0 \cdot 060. \hfill \\ \end{gathered} $$ As they are substantially larger than previously published values a reinterpretation of the correlation function is given. The half-life of the 93 keV state was found to be: $$T_{\tfrac{1}{2}} = (1 \cdot 49 \pm 0 \cdot 05) \cdot 10^{ - 9} \sec $$ in good agreement with the coulomb excitation data.

Notes: Abstract The time spectrum of the coincidences between theγ-group at 1150 keV and the 100 keV radiation in the decay of Ta182 was observed in an external magnetic field of 29300±300 Gauss at eight different angles. The analysis of these data which took into account the experimentally determined shape of the prompt resolution curve yields for theg-factor of the 2+ rotational state: $$g_R = + 0 \cdot 336 \pm 0 \cdot 044.$$ The angular correlation was found to be slightly attenuated by internal fields. The integral attenuation factor was determined as: $$G_4 = \frac{\lambda }{{\lambda + \lambda _4 }} = 0 \cdot 91 \pm 0 \cdot 05.$$ Liquid sources of tantalum fluoride solved in concentric hydrofluoric acid were used for these experiments. The half life of the 100 keV state was determined as: $$T_{1/2} = (1 \cdot 41 \pm 0 \cdot 06) \cdot 10^{ - 9} s$$ in agreement with earlier measurements.

    Notes: Abstract The following angular correlations in the decay of Hf180m have been measured: 215 keV-93 keVγγ-cascade: $$W(\Theta ) = 1 + (0 \cdot 093 \pm 0 \cdot 007) P_2 + (0 \cdot 014 \pm 0 \cdot 009) P_4 $$ 332 keV-215 keVγγ-cascade: $$W(\Theta ) = 1 + (0 \cdot 090 \pm 0 \cdot 010) P_2 + (0 \cdot 006 \pm 0 \cdot 010) P_4 $$ 501 keV-332 keVγγ-cascade: $$W(\Theta ) = 1 + (0 \cdot 004 \pm 0 \cdot 007) P_2 - (0 \cdot 002 \pm 0 \cdot 012) P_4 .$$ Liquid sources of HfF4 solved in concentric HF were used for these experiments. The angular correlation of the 215 keV-93 keV-cascade was found to be slightly attenuated by internal fields. A measurement of the differential angular correlation for different delays gave: $$\lambda _2 = (0 \cdot 073 \pm 0 \cdot 036) \cdot 10^9 \sec ^{ - 1} assuming A_2 (t) = A_2 (0) \cdot e^{ - \lambda _2 t} .$$ The above correlation functions agree with the interpretation of the low lying states of Hf180 as a (0+, 2+, 4+, 6+)-rotational band. The 501 keV-332 keV angular correlation shows that the multipolarity of the 501 keV-γ-transition is a mixture of (3.5±0.5)%M2 and (96.5±0.5)%E3. The rotation of angular correlations in a strong external magnetic field has been observed and the gyromagnetic ratios of the 2+ and the 4+ rotational states were determined as: $$g_R (2^ + level) = + 0 \cdot 371 \pm 0 \cdot 032$$ and $$g_R (4^ + level) = + 0 \cdot 5 \pm 0 \cdot 1.$$
