Abstract Rapidly quenched glasses in the V2O5-MO (M=Mg, Ca and Ba) systems have been prepared by a twin-roller technique. Glasses up to 40 mol% MgO and 50 mol% CaO or BaO were obtained. No metastable phase was observed in the crystallization processes. From the infrared spectral data for the glasses, the structural change of the glasses are discussed. The electrical conductivity of the glasses decreased with increasing MO content, and the electrical behaviour of the glasses has been related to the structural change of the glasses.
