    Description / Table of Contents: Résumé Nous avons mis au point pour l'ostéosynthèse des implants de poly-L-lactide (PLLA) ultra-forts (vis, broches et clous) qui sont raisonnablement solides et bioabsorbables. Nous les avons évalués cliniquement sur 143 patients. Les implants de PLLA que nous avons utilisés ont la meilleure résistance mécanique parmi tous ceux qui ont été présentés à ce jour. Ils perdent environ 10% de leur résistance initiale en huit semaines, environ 40% en douze semaines et presque 100% en vingt semaines, in vivo. L'âge des patients était de 9 à 78 ans et le recul est de 2 à 6 ans. Les implants de PLLA ont été utilisés chez 84 patients pour fixer des greffons osseux dans des situations variées, chez 49 patients pour synthéser des fractures péri- ou intra-articulaires, chez 8 patients pour fixer des ostéotomies et dans 2 autres cas. A part le rachis dorsal et lombaire et les clavicules, presque toutes les régions du squelette ont été incluses dans notre étude. Dans un seul cas, avec implantation d'une allogreffe, la consolidation osseuse n'a pas été obtenue. Au début de notre expérience les vis se sont cassées 12 fois (8%) au niveau de leur insertion dans l'os, dans la plupart des cas en raison de l'inadaptation de la taille du taraud. Nous n'avons plus rencontré de tels problèmes après l'amélioration du système de taraudage. Il n'y a eu aucune anomalie sanguine, ni d'infection ni de réaction à corps étranger dues à ces implants.
    Notes: Summary We have developed reasonably strong but bioabsorbable osteosynthetic screws, pins and nails made of ultra high strength poly-L-lactide (PLLA) and evaluated their use in 143 patients. The PLLA implants have the highest strength among those reported to date. They lose about 10% of their initial strength within 8 weeks, about 40% within 4 weeks and nearly 100% within 20 weeks in vivo. The patients were aged from 9 to 78 years, and the follow up was from 2 to 6 years. The implants were used for fixation of bone grafts in 84 patients, peri-and intra-articular fractures in 49, after osteotomy in 8, and in 2 others. Bony union was not achieved in only one case. In the early stages of the study, breakage of screws occurred in 12 cases (8%), mostly because of an inappropriate size of tap; these problems have not occurred after improvement of the tapping system. There were no cases with abnormal blood tests, infection or foreign body reaction.

    Notes: Abstract Perovskite La0.5Li0.5TiO3 (LLT) thin films, 0.2–1 μm thick, were deposited on non-alkali aluminoborosilicate glass substrates (NA substrates) and glass substrates with ITO (indium tin oxide) coatings (ITO substrates) by the sol–gel method. Alkoxide-based solutions containing titanium alkoxide, lithium alkoxide and lanthanum alkoxide and acetate-based solutions containing titanium alkoxide, lithium acetate and lanthanum acetate, were used as coating solutions. Impurity phases tended to be precipitated on heat treatment in the films derived from the acetate-based solutions. Addition of acetylacetone or partial substitution of lead for lithium in the acetate-based solutions, however, was effective in suppressing the precipitation of impurity phases. Preferred orientation of the LLT (1 1 1/2) plane was observed in the films prepared from the acetate-based solutions when NA substrates were used, whereas the employment of the alkoxide-based solutions or ITO substrates and the partial substitution of lead for lithium, reduced the preferred orientation. The electrical conductivity of the films was much lower than the values reported for the sintered materials.
