Notes: Summary The fluorescence of Y-bodies and brightly fluorescing autosomal heterochromatin in quinacrine mustard stained interphase nuclei treated with distamycin A is more brilliant than in nuclei stained only with quinacrine mustard. In the present study examinations with the aid of this method in several probands and different tissues are described. The effect of distamycin A is demonstrated to depend on its dose and the time of exposure to it. An exceptionally high frequency of YY sperm nuclei, previously also described by other studies, is confirmed in the present work. A hypothesis explaining the effect of distamycin A in interphase nuclei is discussed.

Notes: Abstract The production of jets in low Q2 ep scattering (photoproduction) and in low Q2 ey+ey− scattering (γγ scattering) allows for testing perturbative QCD and for measuring the proton and photon structure functions. This requires exact theoretical predictions for one- and two-jet cross sections. We describe the theoretical formalism, giving sufficient details, for calculating the direct and resolved processes in γp and γγ reactions in next-to-leading order QCD. We present the complete analytical results for the Born terms, the virtual, and the real corrections. To separate singular and regular regions of phase space we use the phase space slicing method with an invariant mass cut-off. In this way, all soft and collinear singularities are either canceled or absorbed into the structure functions. Using a flexible Monte Carlo program, we evaluate the cross sections numerically and perform various tests and comparisons with other calculations. We consider the scale dependence of our results and compare them to data from the experiments H1 and ZEUS at HERA and OPAL at LEP.

Notes: Abstract. We present a next-to-leading order calculation for the virtual photoproduction of one and two jets in $ep$ collisions. Soft and collinear singularities are extracted using the phase space slicing method. The collinear photon initial state singularity depends logarithmically on the mass of the virtual photon and is absorbed into the virtual photon structure function. An $\overline{\rm MS}$ factorization scheme is defined similarly to the real photon case. Numerical results are presented for HERA conditions using the Snowmass jet definition for inclusive single jet and dijet cross sections. We study the dependence of these cross sections on the transverse energies and rapidities of the jets. Finally, we compare the ratio of the experimentally defined resolved and direct cross sections with recent ZEUS data as a function of the photon virtuality $P^2$ .

Notes: Abstract. We study the potential of high-energy photon colliders for the production of gluino pairs within the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM). In this model, the process $\gamma\gamma\to\tilde{g}\tilde{g}$ is mediated by quark/squark box diagrams with enhancements for up-type quarks/squarks from their larger charges and for third generation squarks from their large mass splittings, generated by the mixing of left- and right-handed states. Far above threshold and in scenarios with very heavy squarks, resolved photons can contribute significantly at tree level. Taking into account the laser photon backscattering spectrum, electron and laser beam polarization effects, and current mass exclusion limits, we find that gluino pair production in high-energy photon collisions should be visible over large regions of the MSSM parameter space, contrary to what has been found for e + e - annihilation. In addition, the cross section rises rather steeply, so that a gluino mass determination with a precision of a few GeV should be feasible for a wide range of post-LEP benchmark points.

Notes: Abstract. We calculate three jet cross sections in photoproduction using exact matrix elements for the direct and resolved contributions. Numerical distributions are presented in a generic, irreducible set of variables that allows to disentangle the dynamics of partonic QCD subprocesses from each other and from pure phase space distributions. The results are compared to preliminary data from the ZEUS collaboration at HERA. It is found that the largest contribution comes from photon-gluon fusion in the mass range 36 GeV $〈 M_{\rm 3-jet} 〈$ 80 GeV. The measured leading jet scattering angle distribution is consistent with the $t$ -channel exchange of a massless fermion in $2\rightarrow 2$ scattering, where the third parton is assumed to arise from soft bremsstrahlung. The data are inconsistent with pure phase space and Rutherford scattering distributions.
