Description / Table of Contents: Summary Blood coagulation belongs to the physiological processes, which in vitro can influence enzyme activities in plasma or serum. In parallel determinations activities measured in serum are mostly found higher than in plasma. The liberation of enzymes, present at high levels intracellularly, from thrombocytes was found to be responsible for the serum plasma difference. In this paper we present evidence, that this enzyme liberation caused by coagulation does occur during the retraction phase and not-parallel with the beginning of the viscous metamorphosis-during the initial coagulation phase. By rapid separation of the serum from the clot we could anticipate the enzyme release. In rapidly isolated serum no significant increase in activity could be demonstrated when compared with plasma. GOT and GPT, which are present only at a relatively low level in the platelets, are not influenced by blood coagulation resp. thrombocyte desintegration. The late enzyme release from the thrombocytes as observed during our investigation seems to be meaningful physiologically: Only after completion of clot retraction, which is an important function of the thrombocytes, the enzymes they contain-after they have mediated the energy needed-leak out into the surrounding fluid.

Description / Table of Contents: Summary A detailed report is given of a transfusion reaction of the hemorrhagichemolytic type due to the rare antibody anti-Cellano. The search for compatible blood for the patient-she had the blood group formula A1 ccD Ee KK-was further complicated by the development of a secondary antibody of the specificity anti-C (C major). This secondary antibody for a short time had the same titre (1: 512) as the anti-Cellano but showed both a different mode of reaction and a different stability. The necessity to use the optimal techniques for the serologic compatibility tests and to work only with fresh drawn blood samples when investigating sensitized patients is stressed. Among the therapeutical and organizational consequences the availability of samples of rare blood groups for the identification of irregular antibodies and of donors of this rare blood type is thought to be of special importance.

Notes: Summary The data of the 16 cases of anti-K2 (Cellano) antibodies, reported in the literature, were compiled and discussed in greater detail. They are in agreement with the assumption of an immune nature of this rare but clinically important antibody. Two incomplete anti-K2 antibodies, originating from a patient with a transfusion accident, and from an immunized donor, -by means of DEAE cellulose chromatography—were found not only in the IgG but also in the IgA class. An anti-C antibody in one of these cases (same titre value 1∶512) was found only as IgG. The different properties of this antibody lead to the assumption that the occurence of an antibody as IgA besides the main parts as IgG resp. IgM, may indicate an immune response of special strength, due to repeated antigenic stimuli and/or duration of immunization.

Description / Table of Contents: Summary The activity of the enzymes LDH, MDH, GOT and GPT were tested at the time of birth. 1. The activities of the LDH, MDH and GOT were found higher than in a control group of healthy adults. As reasons therefore we discussed: a) Mechanical injury and hypoxia during delivery. b) A greater permeability of membranes of the newborn which, in addition, may also be more susceptible to injuries. c) An increased bloodcell elimination. d) The permeation of enzymes of the placenta into the circulation of the child. 2. The GPT activity was lower in the group of the newborn than in the control group. We would attribute this to the functional capacity of the liver of the newborn child.
Notes: Zusammenfassung Bei 200 Neugeborenen wurde zum Zeitpunkt der Geburt die Aktivität der Enzyme LDH, MDH, GOT und GPT untersucht. 1.
