Summary In the case of normal untrained test-persons the nominal values of the O2-pulse, the pulse-rate, O2-intake and CO2-output and the ventilation equivalents for O2 and CO2 are statistically determined, in the case of a work-load of 1 watt per 1 kilogram body-weight on an electrically-braked bicycle ergometer (in a sitting position), in the form of mean values and regression equations. In similar work-load-tests in the case of mitral valvular defects, of varying degrees of disability, there results a relative reduction of the O2-pulse in comparison to the normal values. A statistical analysis of the two components of the O2-pulse proved that in cases of greater disability the resulting pathophysiological disturbances in the cardiopulmonary system in the cases of mitral valvular defects the alteration in the absolute values of O2-pulse are not caused alone by an increase in the heart-rate but can also result in a reduction of the O2-intake.
Notes:
