Notes: Abstract SnAu- and SnCu-alloys are vapour quenched at cryogenic temperatures. Resistivity and electron diffraction patterns were recorded in situ. The scattered intensities have been normalized to interference functions. The overall agreement with those of the corresponding liquid systems is quite well. The average interatomic distances obtained from the atomic distribution functions show a concentration dependence which corresponds closely to that found in liquid SnAu and SnCu respectively. This gives evidence to the statement that the nearest neighbour organisations of the films are very similar to those of the corresponding liquids. Furthermore it turned out that the local structures in the Sn-rich SnAu-system are substantial different from those in the Sn-rich SnCu-system, except in the vicinity of a minimum amount of noble metals (8–10 at.%), which is necessary to stabilize the amorphous state.

Notes: Abstract Al100−x Au x films (20≦x≦71) are produced by quench condensation. The analysis of electron diffraction patterns as well as resistivity measurements reveal the liquid-like structure of these films. In contrast to amorphous Al−Cu films the amorphous Al−Au filsm exhibit prepeaks in their interference functions. Atomic distances as large as the smallest Au−Au separations existing in the compound Al2Au are responsible for these prepeaks. The CaF2-type structure of this particular compound is due to an ionic bonding contribution in Al2Au. This bonding contribution, probably caused by the large electronegativity difference between Al and Au, seems to be responsible for the pronounced chemical short-range order in amorphous Al−Au films.

Notes: Abstract In situ electron diffraction patterns of quench condensed Al-Cu-films with Cuconcentrations between 0 and 20 at % Cu are taken immediately after the condensation onto a substrate at 4 K and during annealing up to 330 K. Films with Cu-concentrations higher than 10 at % are build up as an amorphous phase. In connection with the occurence of the amorphous state the transition temperatureT c increases to values as high as 4.4 K.

Notes: Abstract By vapour quenching it is possible to produce amorphous metal films in the Al−Cu system which are superconducting between 1.2 and 2.6 K. These films show a negative temperature coefficient of resistivity and are stable up to 380 K. The analysis of electron diffraction patterns shows that Al100−xCux is characterized by a dense packed atomic distribution with increasing order from 29〈~x〈~49. Al51Cu49 exhibits all typical features known from metglasses which are to a first approximation well understood by the Bernal model. From our results over the composition range 29〈~x〈~72 we conclude that the short range orders of our amorphous films are similar to those of the complex compounds existing in the phase diagram.

Notes: Abstract Electron diffraction patterns have been recorded insitu from quench condensed Sb—Au-films using a Si-detector. The total scattered intensities were normalized to interference functions. From their Fourier transforms we obtained information about the short range order within the films. It turned out that they can be stabilized in a liquid-like structure in the concentration range from approximately 37 at% Au to 80 at% Au. Like in comparable liquid systems this structure exhibits a specific short range order. This is demonstrated by a comparison of the experimental interference functions with calculated functions based on the short range orders of the compound Sb2Au and Au. The stability of the liquid-like films is discussed with respect to their electronic behaviour.

Notes: Abstract Amorphous metallic alloys were synthesized by the methods of rapid quenching and by mechanical alloying. In contrast to rapid quenching, mechanical alloying is a new process in producing amorphous alloys. In this paper we will report the amorphization of Ti-Cu, Hf-Cu, Hf-Ni and Fe-Ni-B alloys. The crystallization behaviour of these amorphous alloys was examined by DTA measurements with different heating rates in the range from 1 to 80 K/min. The data of mechanically alloyed powders will be compared with those of rapidly quenched materials. Further characterizations were done by X-ray diffraction, SEM and EDAX analyses. In general, the examined amorphous materials prepared by mechanical alloying or rapid quenching show very similar properties.

Notes: Abstract: This paper contributes to the discussion on the phenomena of the enhanced emission of low–energetic charged particles during compound nuclei decay. The decay of compound nuclei 52Fe, 56Ni, and 59Cu was studied. Energy spectra and emission angles of evaporated charged particles were measured in coincidence with gamma rays to determine the corresponding evaporation residue nucleus. Additionally, evaporation residue distributions were determined with the Munich rf recoil spectrometer. In this way, detailed channel–specific evaporation data were obtained for theoretical analysis. We extracted evaporation barriers and compared them with corresponding fusion barriers. The main result was revealed to be a lowering of the evaporation barrier for protons and alpha particles relative to the fusion barriers. But the observed effect is not as intensive as reported in recent studies.

Notes: Abstract Transfer reactions at two near-barrier energies for the systems32S +100,101Ru have been studied. Differential cross sections have been extracted for a large variety of channels, with a set-up yielding good mass, nuclear charge and energy resolutions. A steeper decrease of the measured angular distributions at backward angles with respect to the prediction of a semiclassical theory is interpreted as a loss of transfer flux feeding more complex channels and/or fusion. Coupled channels calculations, which use the transfer form factors derived from the experiment, reproduce the fusion cross sections at sub-barrier energies. Multi-nucleon transfer seems to play an essential role for the fusion process, as evidenced by the found strong correlations. A systematic comparison is made with the systems33S +90,91,92Zr, which have been the object of a previous experimental study with the same set-up.
