Notes: Summary The intravagal paraganglioma has its origin from paraganglionic, not chromaffinic receptor-cells, which are to be found within the ganglion nodosum (vagal body) itself or in its neighbourhood. In a casuistic report, the clinical picture of this tumor is described. The problems of the surgical treatment, when removing the tumor, are discussed. By means of light- and electron microscopy the histologic picture and the ultrastructural findings are presented. Observations on these tumors — as published in the literature — are compared with our case and discussed.

Notes: Summary Salivary secretions fulfill some specific functions within the human organism, which are explained. The scientific research concerning these fluids dealt during the last years especially with the formation of these secretions within the glands. These investigations have been performed mostly in animal experiments. The results obtained are briefly summarized. For investigations in human salivary secretions, it was necessary to develop some new techniques for collecting the secretions from separate glands. The interpretation of sialo-chemical facts is often difficult as there are many factors, influencing the flow-rate and the composition of the fluids. These factors, as known up to now, are explained. In separate chapters, the inorganic and organic composition of human salivary secretions is described. Concerning the protein-composition of human saliva, there are some newer results as aspects, which are discussed. It must be the aim of a chemical analysis to discover the interrelation between the differences in salivary secretions and pathological conditions. Therefore changes of the salivary secretions in systemic diseases are reported as well as changes in the compositions of these fluids in pathological conditions of the glands themselves. According to the results from own experiments and from the literature, it should be possible in the future, to develop some new diagnostic methods by analysing the salivary secretions.

Notes: Summary By means of Discelectrophoresis the protein- and glycoproteinpattern of stimulated and not-stimulated parotid saliva was analysed and compared. By this method, exact quantitative and qualitative results about the proteincomposition of the secretion of the human parotid gland can be obtained. The clinical importance of these results is discussed.

Notes: Summary In comparison to sialography and szintigraphy in parotid tumors fractionated human parotissalivation in parotid tumor-patients was examined. Simultaneous estimations of flowrate, protein-, Ig-A-, lysozyme, electrolytconcentration, trypsinmhibiting and esterolytic activity were done, for analysis of proteincomposition discelektrophoretic separation on acryamidgels was performed Biochemical and discelectrophoretic results are compared with those of normal patients and discussed.

Notes: Summary More than 200 cases of peritonsillar abscess, observed during the last years, are evaluated under clinical and bacteriological aspects. The mean age of these patients was about 35 years, there was a predominance of the male sex. Bacteriological investigations showed, that in about 85% of these cases, streptococcus alone or together with other microorganisms could be found. Especially during the last years, there was an increased finding of anaerobs in the abscesses. Taking material from a peritonsillar abscess, one should take special care for the provement of these microorganisms. For their proof, a special transportmedium and a quick processing is necessary.
