Notes: Summary Ducky, a recessive autosomal mutation in mice, causes growth retardation, incoordination, excitability, seizures, and shortened lifespan. Neuropathological examination revealed dysgenesis of selective central nervous system regions. The most severely underdeveloped and deficient parts were the spinal cord, spinal ganglia and spinal nerves, the cerebellum and medulla oblongata. Among related structures the pons and trapezoid body, and dorsal root nuclei were greatly reduced in size, the degree of severity following this order. Also, there was Purkinje cell disease, characterized by deaths and losses, and axonal dystrophy and myelin deficiency were found in several fiber tracts, i.e., lateral lemniscus, and spinocerebellar, vestibulospinal and cerebellospinal tracts. Based on spino-medullo-cerebellar dysgenesis and consisting mainly of spinal and pontocerebellar hypoplasia combined with Purkinje cell atrophy, the symptoms in ducky could best be described collectively as a locomotor ataxia or dyskinesia. The seizure susceptibility was not explained. In view of the clinico-pathological findings the ducky syndrome might be analogous to forms of human spinocerebellar degenerations.

Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung 1.
Notes: Summary 1. Oral glucose tolerance in 11 normal subjects was significantly improved after peroral administration of 150 mg of butyl-biguanide. 2. On the other hand maximum capacity of renal glucose reabsorption (TmG) and lowest glomerular glucose filtration rate at which glucosuria was recorded (Fmin) remained uninfluenced after 150 mg of butyl-biguanide in 7 normal subjects. 3. These results are compatible with the hypothesis that the oral administration of therapeutic doses of biguanides yields concentrations at the luminal face of the intestine which inhibit glucose resorption. Plasma concentrations following oral intake of the same dose of biguanide are too low to exert any inhibiting action on renal glucose reabsorption as demonstrated by the present in vivo studies. 4. Urinary flow rate and inulin clearance remained unaltered after butyl-biguanide in these normal subjects.

Notes: Summary We describe a number of biochemical and pathological findings in a neurological syndrome which resulted from a mutation in the congenic resistant strain, B10.C(47N). The mutation, designated with the symbol msd, is sex-linked, recessive, and causes tremor, repeated seizures, and death of affected males at about 18–23 days of postnatal age. The earliest detectable clinical signs appear around 10 days of age. The CNS is markedly deficient in myelin. The white matter fiber tracts appear essentially as “negative images”. In contrast, the peripheral nerves are myelinated. Among quantitative differences in lipid composition of the CNS between normal and mutant mice, major deficiencies involve cholesterol and galactolipids, i.e., cerebrosides and sulfatides, but not gangliosides. Quantitative and qualitative abnormalities of cerebrosides, sulfatides, and sphingomyelin are detectable chromatographically. Both cerebroside spots are lacking, sulfatides are either absent or greatly diminished, and only the lower sphingomyelin band is present. A major difference between mutant and control brains involves the ratio of total saturated to unsaturated fatty acids which is significantly higher in mutant than control mice, an indication that the mutant brain is less able to retain unsaturates. The situation with respect to dimethylacetals of plasmalogens has not yet been resolved. Although msd is similar to jp (jimpy) genetically and biochemically, tests for allelism and linkage to determine the position of the two genes relative to one another are still inconclusive. Therefore, it appears at present more likely that the two genes are different and non-allelic.

Notes: This paper describes a new development of an incremental, robot based sheet metalforming process for the production of sheet metal components for limited-lot productions andprototypes. The kinematic based generation of the shape is implemented by means of two industrialrobots, which are interconnected to a cooperating robot system. Compared to other incrementalsheet metal forming machines this system offers a high geometrical form flexibility without theneed of any workpiece dependent tools. The principle of the procedure is based on flexible shaping by means of a freely programmablepath-synchronous movement of two robots. So far, the final shape is produced by the incrementalinfeed of the forming tool in depth direction and its movement along the contour in lateral directionon each level. The counter tool, with its simple geometry, was used to support the sheet metal on thebackside by moving synchronously along the outer contour, constantly on the same level. Thiscorresponds to a fixed backplate used in other incremental sheet metal forming processes.Due to the use of a new robot system with extended control algorithms for cooperating robots, itwill be possible to release the counter tool from its constant path on the outer contour and supportthe forming tool right on the opposite side of the sheet to generate a predefined gap between the twohemispherical tools. This way at each moment a small part of a full die, as it is used in otherprocesses, is simulated without the need of producing a workpiece dependent die.The extended payload of the new robot system gives the opportunity to form steel blanks, for thefirst time

Notes: With fluid forming processes getting more and more common in industrial application alot of research is carried out to analyze the forming behavior of sheet metal within these processes. In order to gather experimental information about the forming behavior of the workpiece, an imaging system is presented, that will allow determining the actual shape within the forming process. The system has to be functional in liquid media as well as in a high pressure environment. Therefore an ultrasonic based system has been chosen, consisting of a small number of transducers which are alternately used as transmitter and receiver. It is possible to cover 100 by 100 mm² with only 10 by 10 transducers by the use of special algorithms. The reconstruction of the echographic images from the recorded data is done by a SAFTalgorithm (synthetic aperture focusing technique) followed by an analysis with special contourdetection algorithms, which are able to scan the image for contour data. It can be shown that the accuracy of the reconstruction is quite good in the 2.5-dimensional domain, if appropriate contour models for the description are used. Because of the small number of transducers and the specular reflection of the signals, the quality of the image can be improved significantly by the extension of the SAFT algorithm with an angle-weighted factor. The three dimensional reconstruction is also possible and will be demonstrated for simple geometries. Theability for sampling more complex geometries and enhancing the accuracy will be achieved by the integration of three dimensional contour models and three dimensional angle-weighting

Notes: This paper describes a new sheet metal forming process for the production of sheet metal components for limited-lot productions and prototypes. The kinematic based generation of the shape is implemented by means of a new forming machine comprising of two industrial robots. Compared to conventional sheet metal forming machines this newly developed sheet metal forming process offers a high geometrical form flexibility and also shows comparatively small deformation forcesfor high deformation degrees. The principle of the procedure is based on flexible shaping by means of a freely programmable path-synchronous movement of the two robots. The sheet metal components manufactured in first attempts are simple geometries like truncated pyramids and cones as well as spherical cups. Among other things the forming results could be improved by an adjustment of the movement strategy, a variation of individual process parameters and geometric modifications of the tools. Apart from a measurement of the form deviations of the sheet metal witha Coordinate Measurement Machine rasterised and deformed sheet metals were used for deformation analyses. In order to be able to use the potential of this process, a goal-oriented process design is as necessary as specific process knowledge. In order to achieve process stability and safety the essential process parameters and the process boundaries have to be determined
