Description / Table of Contents: Résumé Trois nouvelles observations d'agénésie du péricarde sont rapportées: 2 cas d'agénésie partielle, 1 cas d'agénésie totale.
Notes: Summary Three new cases of pericardial agenesis are reported: two cases of partial agenesis and one of total agenesis. All three cases were operated (resection of the left atrium). Following description of their cases, the authors provide an historical perspective of this disorder and analyse its frequency. A consideration of the embryology of the region explains why left sided agenesis is by far the more frequent. Finally, they discuss the appropriate diagnostic approach and suitable treatment, comparing total agenesis which is usually well tolerated with partial agenesis which exposes the patient to the risk of atrial herniation and occasionally sudden death.

Notes: Summary The aim of this work was to demonstrate the impact of ultrasonography in utero to gain a better understanding of the anatomy, growth, anatomical variations and function of the fetal kidney and urinary tract. Three main topics are discussed in this paper based on the authors' personal experience and data from the literature: 1) the technique of ultrasonography in utero, including the main difficulties encountered and limitations of this technique; 2) ultrasonographic study of the morphology, growth and anatomical variations of the fetal kidney. The length of the fetal kidney was found to be the most significant parameter for assessment of its growth. At term, the kidney measures slightly more than 4 cm in length, while the renal pelvis is usually no more than 10 mm thick; 3) current knowledge of the physiology of the fetal urinary apparatus especially the kidney. Excretory function of the kidney begins in the third month of gestation and its main role involves the regulation of the amniotic fluid.

Notes: Summary The authors describe the ultrasonographic anatomy and semiology of allowing detection of the main types of fetal non-obstructive uropathies. The results of the author's personal experience in this domain are compared to data from the literature. Differential features of the uropathies are given and the limitations and practical significance of prenatal and postnatal ultrasonography are discussed.

Notes: : A stochastic programming framework is developed to evaluate the economic implications of reliability criteria and multiple effluent controls on nonpoint source pollution. An integrated watershed simulation model is used to generate probability distributions for agricultural effluents in surface and ground water resulting from agricultural practices. Results from the planning model indicate that reliability and multiple effluent constraints significantly increase the cost of nonpoint controls but the effects vary by control alternative. The analysis indicates that an evaluation of multiple water quality objectives can be an important planning tool for designing nonpoint source controls for innovative programs to promote cost-effective water quality regulation.

Notes: : Scarcity combined with differences in values, beliefs, and attitudes can lead to behavior differences and conflicts over water. This paper develops an index for measuring potential conflict using survey information about water attitudes and beliefs of individuals in three groups in a Florida case study. The index helps in assessing the current capability of the institution to reduce conflict. The results suggest that the current institution is effective, but changes may help to streamline the consumptive-use permitting process, to improve educational programs, and to seek improved institutional arrangements to reduce future conflict over economic uses of water.
