Notes: A transplacentally induced lung tumour of C3HfeB/HeN mouse origin expresses, as a tumour-associated antigen, a normal tissue component of strain A mice. The genetic locus coding for this alloantigen has been shown to be linked to the H-2 major histocompatibility complex. In the present study we demonstrate that this antigen is also expressed on normal tissues of C3H/HeN mice. Skin grafts exchanged between C3HfeB/HeN and C3H/HeN mice are reciprocally rejected at approximately 3 weeks after grafting. C3HfeB/HeN mice were derived from C3H/HeN mice in 1945. These strains have apparently deviated since then in their genetic regulation of the expression of the MHC-linked genetic locus. The finding of the C3H/HeN-associated antigen on a C3HfeB/HeN mouse-derived lung tumour indicates that this deviation is reversible.

Notes: [Auszug] Range-finding experiments have shown that the maximal tolerated doses of propylene imine and propane sultone, in distilled water, administered by gavage twice a week to 6 week old male and female Charles River CD rats, were 20 mg/kg and 56 mg/kg, respectively. Chronic tests were also carried out at ...

Notes: Abstract Peridotite and infolded marble of the Seiad ultramafic complex were recrystallized in the upper amphibolite facies as part of the regional progressive metamorphism of the Rattlesnake Creek terrane. Field relations, including the occurrence of metarodingites, and metasomatic zones between dissimilar rock types, demonstrate that the metasediments and serpentinized ultramafic rocks were juxtaposed prior to regional, barrovian metamorphism. Temperatures are estimated to have reached 760–800°C at pressures of 7–8 kbar during the peak of metamorphism. Four low-variance parageneses have been identified within a small (3 km2) area of the complex, which may reasonably be assumed to have formed under the same P and T conditions. Isobaric T-Xco2 diagrams of appropriate equilibria are presented for three different internally consistent sets of thermodynamic data. Despite the seemingly small numerical differences between the standard state thermodynamic properties of the data sets, only one diagram allows the four observed assemblages to coexist within a reasonable temperature range. All three phase diagrams require differences in fluid composition on the scale of a thin section; strong evidence for effective control of pore fluid composition by local mineral reactions during metamorphism.

Notes: Summary The cytostatic drug procarbazine has previously been shown to be a potent transplacental neurotropic carcinogen in rats. Following a single IP administration of (14C-methylprocarbazine (110 mg/kg) on day 22 of gestation, methylation products with cellular DNA were determined in fetal and maternal rat organs. The concentration of the major adduct N7-methylguanine was highest in the maternal liver (224 μmol/mol guanine). Fetal and nonhepatic maternal tissues exhibited significantly lower levels, but differed little from each other. In brain, lung, intestines, and placenta the O 6-methylguanine/N7-methylguanine ratio was close to 0.11, indicating that procarbazine, like other methylating carcinogens, initiates malignant transformation via methyldiazonium hydroxide as the ultimate reactant. Following a single dose of (14C-methyl)procarbazine to newborn animals, methylpurine values were 30–60 times lower than after prenatal administration. This suggests that DNA alkylation in nonhepatic tissues occurs by systemic distribution of a proximate carcinogen formed in the adult rat liver.
