    Notes: Abstract Isoxicam is a potent, orally active, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug with prolonged activity in experimentally induced inflammation in rats. Isoxicam is less ulcerogenic, acutely less toxic and, therefore, appears to have a therapeutic ratio superior to other standard agents to which it was compared.

    Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Bei Erkrankungen des Herzens, der Skeletmuskulatur und des Zentralnervensystems kommt es zu einer Steigerung der CK-Aktivität im Serum. Bei CK-Isoenzymbestimmungen in pathologischen Seren ist bisher jedoch fast ausschließlich Skeletmuskel-CK nachgewiesen worden. Es werden Isoenzymbestimmungen in Gewebsextrakten durchgeführt. Die Ergebnisse stimmen mit denen der Literatur überein. Im Serum von Patienten mit Schlafmittelintoxikationen und mit Herzinfarkt läßt sich lediglich Skeletmuskel-CK (CK III) nachweisen. Weiterhin wird Gehirn-CK vom Kaninchen (CK I) in physiologischer Kochsalzlösung und in Serum inkubiert. Nach 12 Std tritt im Serum Muskel-CK (CK II) auf. Nach 24 Std Inkubation ist CK I nicht mehr nachweisbar. Es kommt jedoch während der Inkubation zu einer zunehmenden Aktivitätssteigerung einer CK III. Im Serum von Kaninchen ist sofort nach Injektion von CK I im Serum CK I und III nachweisbar. Nach 2 Std findet sich jedoch lediglich CK III. Bei der gemeinsamen Inkubation von CK I und III in physiologischer Kochsalzlösung treten nach 2 Std alle 3 CK-Isoenzyme auf, während sich nach weiteren 22 Std lediglich CK III nachweisen läßt, deren Aktivität gesteigert ist. Es findet somit eine Umwandlung von CK I und II in CK III statt, die auf eine Hybridstruktur der Isoenzyme oder auf den Abbau sekundärer Transportmechanismen zurückgeführt wird. Aufgrund der Ergebnisse ist es wahrscheinlich, daß es bei Erkrankungen des Herzens und des ZNS doch zum Austritt von CK aus diesen Organen in das Blut kommt, obwohl bisher diese Möglichkeit abgelehnt werden mußte, da die organspezifischen Isoenzyme nicht im Serum nachgewiesen werden konnten.
    Notes: Summary In diseases of the heart, the muscles and the central nervous system the activity of Creatin Phosphokinase (CK) tends to be elevated. In previous determinations of CK-isoenzymes in pathologic sera however only skeleton muscle-CK was demonstrated. Isoenzymes were determined in tissue extracts. The results were in agreement with those of other investigators. Only CK of skeleton muscle (CK III) was fond in sera of patients suffering from sedativa intoxication or myocardial infarction. Brain CK from rabbit (CK I) was incubated in normal saline and in serum. After 12 hours muscle CK (CK II) can be found and after 24 hours CK I cannot be shown any longer. During this time, an increasing activity of CK III was observed. In rabbits serum CK I as well as CK III is present immediately after injection of CK I. After 2 hours, however, only CK III is found. 2 hours after incubation CK I and III in normal saline, all 3 CK isoenzymes can be found, whereas only CK III can be demonstrated after 22 hours, its activity being increased at this time. There is obviously a transformation of CK I and CK II into CK III, which may be due to the hybrid structure of the isoenzymes or to changes in secondary protein transport mechanisms. These results make it probable, that CK is extruded into blood in diseases of the brain or heart. This possibility had been rejected until now, as specific isoenzymes had not been demonstrated previously.

    Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Durch die Hämodialyse mit acetatgepufferter Spüllösung wird zwar die Serumacidose, nicht aber die intracelluläre Acidose beseitigt. Es wurden 14 chronisch dialysierte Patienten einer einmaligen Dialysebehandlung mit THAM-gepufferter Spüllösung unterzogen. Im Verlauf der 12stündigen Dialyse wurden in regelmäßigen Abständen das Blut-pH, der Säure-Basen-Status sowie der pH-Wert im Erythrocytenhämolysat bestimmt. Mit Hilfe einer Regressionsanalyse konnte gezeigt werden, daß die pH-Verlaufskurve bei THAM-Behandlung höhere intraerythrocytäre Werte zeigt als die Kurve bei acetatgepufferter Spüllösung. Im Vollblut ergaben sich keine Unterschiede der Verlaufskurven bei den verschiedenen Behandlungsarten. Das gleiche gilt für den aus Vollblut bestimmten Säure-Basen-Status. Symptome einer THAM-Intoxikation fanden sich nicht. Die möglichen Auswirkungen einer besseren Kompensation der intracellulären Acidose auf Elektrolythaushalt und urämische Symptomatologie werden diskutiert.
    Notes: Summary Extracellular acidosis is eliminated by haemodialysis utilizing acetate as buffer. Intracellular acidosis, however, is not affected as efficiently. 14 chronic dialysis patients underwent 1 dialysis each with THAM-buffered dialysate. Blood pH, acid-base data and the pH of blood haemolysate was determined in intervals during a 12-hour dialysis. Analysis of variance of the regression curves revealed that the pH curve had higher intracellular values after THAM treatment as compared to the pH curve after conventional acetate treatment. There was no difference between the two treatments as far as the pH of whole blood was concerned. The same holds true for other acid-base data won from whole blood. There were no symptoms of THAM intoxication. The possible consequences of better intracellular pH compensation, on electrolyte metabolism and uraemic symptomatology are discussed.

    Notes: Abstract A 5-month-old male infant with chondrodystrophia punctata type Conradi-Hünermann showed electrocardiographically an enormous enlarged right ventricle with signs of supra-systemic pressure was found. No other intracardiac defects could be seen. Angiography showed severe peripheral pulmonary arterial stenoses of both main arteries. Balloon-dilatation or surgical intervention was supposed to have no beneficial effect. At the age of 6 months the patient died.

    Notes: The binary reaction of CH+3 with NH3 as well as their ternary association have been investigated in the regime from 0.047 to 0.2 eV, KEcm, using the Innsbruck selected ion drift tube (SIDT). In this energy regime the association rate coefficient declines from 4×10−26 to 6×10−27 cm6 s−1 and the lifetimes of the collision complex (CH+3−NH3)* range from ∼10−7 to ∼10−8 s.

    Notes: The reactions of Ar+, N+, and Kr+ with SF6 have been investigated using a selected ion flow drift tube in the energy regime from thermal to a few eV relative kinetic energy of the reactants, KEcm, and the reaction of Xe+ with SF6 from 2 to 5 eV, KEcm, SF+5 is the dominant ionic product in all cases with the exception of the endoergic Xe+ reaction, where SF+3 was observed to be the product ion, the rate coefficient increasing dramatically with KEcm. The reaction involving Ar+ and N+ are fast (k∼10−9 cm3 s−1) and vary only slightly with energy. In the case of Kr+ the 2P3/2 state reacts fast (k∼6×10−10 cm3 s−1), while the 2P1/2 state is about an order of magnitude less reactive. The finding of the Kr+ (2P3/2) reaction leads to values AP (SF+5/SF6) ≤14.0 eV and D(SF5–F)=3.83±0.1 eV.

    Notes: The vibrational relaxation of NO+(v=1) ions in collisions with CH4 molecules has been measured in a flow drift tube experiment from thermal energy to 1.2 eV relative kinetic energy. The quenching rate constant has a broad minimum as a function of collision energy in the ∼0.5–0.6 eV range. These results are interpreted in terms of complex formation at low energies (KEcm (very-much-less-than)U) followed by vibrational predissociation in the complex and by a Landau–Teller nonadiabatic energy transfer at large relative kinetic energies (KEcm (very-much-greater-than)U), where U is the interaction well depth.

    Notes: The competitive charge–transfer and vibrational quenching of N+2 (X,v=1) ions in collision with O2 and NO molecules have been found to have comparable rate constants. The vibrational relaxation rate constants are rationalized in terms of a vibrational predissociation mechanism occurring in relatively long-lived complexes (τ∼10−10−10−11 s). The large magnitudes are attributed to unusually large attractive ion–neutral interaction potentials resulting from a charge–transfer stabilization interaction resulting from the near resonance of the N+2 +NO→NO+(a 3Σ+)+N2 and N+2 +O2→O+2 (a 4Πu) +N2 interactions. The more favorable orbital overlap of the O+2(a 4πu) with N2 relative to that for O+2(X 2Πg) with N2 may explain the slight preference for vibrational quenching over charge transfer and also the order of magnitude faster O+2(a 4πu) charge–transfer with N2 compared to N+2 charge–transfer with O2.
