Octadecyl-bonded silica and styrene-divinylbenzene copolymer columns were investigated for the trace enrichment of blackcurrant aroma compounds identified in a food plant effluent. Using a calibration procedure of reversed-phase systems in pure water, recoveries of identified solutes could be predicted for various volumes of extracted sample. Under identical conditions, the organic resin appeared to be the less distorting extracting material. Experimental yields were almost unaffected by the nature and the volume of the eluting solvent in the range studied. The extracted compounds were practically recovered with ethanol, meeting food processing regulations.
