Abstract During a Japanese multicenter phase III trial of 171 patients requiring computed tomography (CT) of the head, iotrolan 280 as compared with iopamidol 300 for safety and efficacy. Visualization was good with both agents, with no statistical difference. Contrast-enhanced CT was useful for diagnosing the presence and extent, or absence, of lesions, for improving the quality of diagnosis and therapeutic decisions, and for assessing the response of lesions to the treatment given. No adverse events developed in any patient receiving iotrolan, but were seen in three patients receiving iopamidol 300. Iotrolan 280 was judged to be safe, and as useful as iopamidol 300 for head CT.
