    Description / Table of Contents: Riassunto Le condizioni orografiche particolari della piana di Catania determinano fenomeni interessanti sui venti marini, i quali vengono illustrati con convenienti esempi del relativo andamento diurno. Anche l'andamento annuale viene successivamente discusso. Infine, coi dati aerologici si sviluppano alcuni calcoli relativi all'energia termica del regime anemologico considerato.
    Abstract: Summary On account of various influences of orography, the sea-breeze in the plain of Catania presents many interesting and characteristic features that are explained by choised examples. Then is given a discussion of the annual variation. Finally is joined some calculation of the thermal energy of this regime on the base of aerological values.
    Notes: Zusammenfassung Infolge der Eigenart der Orographie bietet der Seewind in der Ebene von Catania interessante Erscheinungsformen, die an ausgewählten Beispielen des täglichen Ablaufes erläutert werden. Sodann wird auf den Jahresgang eingegangen. Abschliessend sind auf Grund aerologischer Werte einige Berechnungen über die thermische Energie dieses Kreislaufes angefügt.

    Description / Table of Contents: Summary In 16 populous forest nests and 8 smaller laboratory nests ofFormica polyctena Foerst, changes have been found in the two-dimensional fluorescentic pattern of the workers during the annual course. There were exclusively body own photoactive substances, their number differed seasonally. The spot reachest pattern was found in the spring during the breeding of the sexual forms. Besides a series of pteridines two biogene riboflavin-pteridine compounds could be isolated and attached to the spots of the paper chromatogram. Most of the separated substances were in the epithelium of the mid gut, the ovaries and the Malpighi tubes. An influence of the food of the fluorescentic pattern could not be pointed out. The changes of the fluorescentic pattern were caused by the present hibernated young workers mainly. The changes could be attached to distinct periods of activation. During the prozess of activation the mentioned riboflavin-pteridine compounds were synthesized and additionally a series of unknown substances which disappeared later on with the degeneration of the ovaries. In the investigated nests the constituted range of variation of the fluorescentic patterns has been caused by the temporal different activation of the young workers mainly involved by the different warming of the nests.
    Notes: Zusammenfassung Bei 16 volkreichen Freilandnestern und 8 kleineren Labornestern vonFormica polyctena Foerst. wurden jahreszyklische Veränderungen im zweidimensionalen Fluorescenzmuster der Arbeiterinnen festgestellt. Es handelt sich ausschliesslich um ein Auftreten von körpereigenen photoaktiven Verbindungen, deren Anzahl jahreszeitlich verschieden ist. Das fleckenreichste Muster tritt im Früjahr zur Zeit der Geschlechtstieraufzucht auf. Neben einer Reihe von Pteridinen konnten biogene Riboflavin-Pteridin-Verbindungen isoliert und den Chromatogrammflecken zugeordnet werden. Die meisten der aufgetrennten Stoffe befinden sich im Mitteldarmepithel, in den Ovarien und den Malpighi-Gefässen. Ein Einfluss der Nahrung auf das Fluorescenzmuster konnte nicht nachgewiesen werden. Die Veränderungen im Fluorescenzmuster werden hauptsächlich durch die vorhandenen eingewinterten Jungarbeiterinnen verursacht. Sie konnten bestimmten Aktivierungsphasen zugeordnet werden. Im Laufe des Aktivierungsprozesses bilden sich die genannten Riboflavin-Pteridin-Verbindungen und zusätzlich eine Reihe von noch unerkannten Substanzen, die später mit der Degeneration der Ovarien wieder verschwinden. Die gefundene Variationsbreite im Fluorescenzmuster wird bei den untersuchten Nestern im wesentlichen durch die zeitlich unterschiedliche Aktivierung der Jungarbeiterinnen verursacht, welche hauptsächlich durch die unterschiedliche Erwärmung der Nester bedingt ist.

    Notes: Abstract A fluorescent pigment was isolated from the culture fluid of Methanobacterium thermoautotrophicum strain ΔH. This pigment was shown to be 7,8-didemethyl-8-hydroxy-5-deazariboflavin by various spectroscopic and chromatographic techniques. This compound was previously described as the “FO” acid hydrolysis fragment of coenzyme F420. On the basis of the time of appearance of the pigment in the course of fermentation, it is suggested that this substance may be an over-produced biosynthetic precursor of F420.

    Notes: The thermally and photochemically induced dissociation of 9-cyanoanthracene-dimer molecules (9-CNAD) into two monomer molecules is examined using optical spectroscopy and ESR. Optical spectroscopy gives an activation energy of 1.67(5) eV for the thermally induced formation of monomer pairs within the dimer crystal. The photoinduced reactions are examined by ESR spectroscopy of the monomer pairs. The presence of only one Δms=±1 ESR triplet line pair indicates the existence of only one photochemically active species. This results from the nondegeneracy of the ground state energies of the four dimer molecules within the unit cell. The fine structure constants D and E and the orientation of the anthracene monomer molecules have been calculated from the angular dependence of the ESR spectra. The orientation of the crystallographic unit cell axes in the crystal has been determined by Laue diffraction.
