    Notes: We present a generalized model for the photochemical cycle of bacteriorhodopsin (bR) protein molecule. Rate equations have been solved for the detailed light-induced processes in bR for its nine states: B→K↔L↔MI→MII↔N↔O↔P→Q→B. The complete steady-state intensity-induced population densities in various states of the molecule have been computed to obtain a general, exact, and analytical expression for the nonlinear absorption coefficient for multiple modulation pump laser beams. All-optical light modulation of different probe laser beam transmissions by intensity induced population changes due to one and two modulation laser beams has been analyzed. The proposed model has been shown to accurately model experimental results. © 2001 American Institute of Physics.

    Notes: Spatial light modulation based on nonlinear absorption of light by excited-state molecules in C60–toluene solution is demonstrated. Amplitude modulation of probe laser beam transmissions at 747 and 885 nm, corresponding to the peak absorption of T1 and S1 states, by the modulation laser beam intensity induced population changes at 532 nm has been analyzed using the rate equation approach, for various values of the small-signal absorption coefficient. It is shown that for T1 and S1 states, modulation up to 100% and 94.5% can be achieved for a laser beam intensity of 800 W/cm2 and 1 kW/cm2 at 532 nm, respectively. © 2000 American Institute of Physics.

    Notes: Summary During starvation the values of RBC, WBC counts, Hb content and packed cell volume declined. After 15, 21 and 27 days of starvation little fluctuation was noted but major fluctuation was recorded after 33 days of starvation in all the above parameters.

    Notes: Abstract We propose a thermodynamically consistent equation of state (EOS) for a hot and dense handron gas (HG) incorporating the hard-core finite-size correction for baryons which result in a Van-der Waals excluded volume effect. We develop a complete description within a thermal hadron gas model to determine the production of strange particles in relativistic nucleus-nucleus collisions and calculate the strange particle ratios as function of baryon chemical potential pB and temperature T. The results are compared with other existing thermodynamically consistent EOS. Furthermore we extract the thermal freeze-out parameters for different strange particles using the latest data obtained by the CERN experiments.

    Notes: Abstract A method is presented to derive hadronic gas equation of state incorporating the effect of finite size of baryons in a thermodynamically consistent way. The model contains a more realistic picture of incorporating the effect of excluded volume unlike earlier methods. The results obtained by our calculation and those by the thermodynamically inconsistent methods used in many earlier works are compared.

    Notes: Abstract A class of homogeneous and isotropic zero-curvature Robertson-Walker models with bulk viscosity is studied. Solutions are obtained with the parameter gamma of the “γ-law” equation of state p = (γ – 1)ρ in which the adiabatic parameter gamma varies continuously as the universe expands. A unified description of the early evolution of the universe is presented with constant bulk viscosity and time-dependent bulk viscosity in which an inflationary period is followed by a radiation-dominated phase. We also establish the time dependence of the cosmological constant in terms of varying γ index. Some physical properties of the models are also discussed.
