    Notes: Summary Diabatic heating of the atmosphere at 800, 600 and 400 mbar surfaces over India has been calculated, making use of thermodynamic and quasi-geostrophic omega equations. The numerically obtained distribution of the diabatic heating field is seen to be in agreement with the observed weather patterns in magnitude. The maximum value of diabatic heating is of the order of 4.0 to 4.5 cal gm−1 12 hr−1. Normally it ranges between 1.0 to 4.0 cal gm−1 12 hr−1. The vertical distribution of the absolute mean value of diabatic heating is seen to be at its maximum at about the 500 mbar surface.

    Notes: Summary Vertical velocities at the 800, 600 and 400 mbar surfaces over India have been calculated, making use of a 3-level geostrophic baroclinic model. Further, the effects of non-adiabatic heating is included into the model and vertical velocity due to diabatic heating is obtained for the same period. A numerically obtained vertical velocity field due to baroclinicity and diabatic heating is seen to be in agreement with the observed weather patterns.

    Notes: Summary Using the vorticity and the thermodynamic equation, ‘Omega Equation’ has been derived. The effect of friction is not taken into account. The vertical velocity omega (ω) is composed of two parts, viz. mean baroclinicity in the atmosphere and heating. The baroclinicity part includes three terms. The magnitude of the second term is of the order of 10−10 to 10−12 mb−1 sec−2,and that of the last is 10−10 to 10−12 mb−1 sec−2, whereas the first term is of the order of the vertical velocity omega 10−4 to 10−6 sec−1. Therefore, the higher order terms can be omitted. Thus with the above approximation the complicated expression for omega is reduced to a simple form.

    Notes: Abstract The vertical velocity, ω, and the diabatic heating were computed at 800, 600, 400 and 200 mb surfaces using the Omega equation. The highest contribution to ω is from the diabatic heating produced by condensation associated with the precipitations appearing to be the main source of diabatic heating. The net radiative cooling and the thermal advection in the upper troposphere over the warm anticyclone result in diabatic cooling over the eastern part of the Bay of Bengal and adjoining northern and eastern regions.

    Notes: Summary The effect of mycotoxin (T-2 toxin) on catecholamines and Na+, K+-ATPase activities in rat epididymis has been evaluated. Dopamine and norepinephrine levels were significantly elevated in the caput and corpus regions whereas their levels remained unchanged in the caudal part of the epididymis. Na+, K+-ATPase activity was significantly increased in all the three regions of rat epididymis as a result of the toxin treatment. These changes may suggest an adverse effect on epididymal functions in rats.

Mit der berechneten adiabatischen Vertikalgeschwindigkeit wird aus der thermodynamischen Energiegleichung die diabatische Vertikalgeschwindigkeit gewonnen. Die Niederschlagsverteilung zeigt eine Übereinstimmung mit den Gebieten mit aufsteigender Bewegung. Die berechnete diabatische Vertikalgeschwindigkeit ist in jedem der 800-, 600- und 400 mb-Niveaus um ungefähr eine Größenordnung größer als die adiabatische Vertikalgeschwindigkeit.
    Notes: Summary The adiabatic vertical velocity fields in the pressure coordinates were evaluated at the intervals of 200 mb in a vertical column extending from 1000 mb to 200 mb surface on a mesh covering Indian region. The computed adiabatic vertical velocity was used in the thermodynamic energy equation to obtain diabatic vertical velocity. The rainfall patterns were seen to be in agreement with rising motion. The computed diabatic vertical velocity is generally about an order of magnitude larger than adiabatic vertical velocity at each of the three levels viz., 800, 600 and 400 mb.

Die für jede der drei Niveaus 800, 600 und 400 mb berechnete diabatische Erwärmung scheint im allgemeinen durch die Niederschlagsverteilung verursacht zu sein. die gemeldeten Regenmengen scheinen von einer für die Erzeugung der berechneten diabatischen Erwärmung richtigen Größenordnung zu sein.
    Notes: Summary The diabatic heating in pressure coordinate was computed at intervals of 200 mb on a mesh covering Indian region for the strong monsoon epoch using a dynamic model. The computed diabatic heating at each of the three levels viz. 800, 600 and 400 mb were seen to be generally supported by the distribution of rainfall. The reported amount of rainfall was seen to be of right order of magnitude to produce the computed diabatic heating.
