Notes: [Auszug] MILK-WOOL is now becoming of universal interest, and samples are being shown now and then of textile products containing 50 or even 100 per cent of this material. It appears to us, however, that due consideration should be given to the question, whether these products can withstand the ...

Notes: [Auszug] Seventy per cent of the Earth is covered with sea water, and most of that is ocean, so most of the large asteroids and comets striking the planet should hit deep water. But very little remains of these impacts — virtually all evidence of large impacts, in the form of craters and associated ...

Notes: In a recent article in Terra Nova, Kristan-Tollmann and Tollmann (1994) suggested that the Biblical Flood can be explained by seven fragments of a comet that impacted the ocean at seven locations on Earth at 03.00h (C.E.T.) on 23 September, 9545 yr BP. We demonstrate that all the ‘geological proofs’ that allegedly support their conclusions are not supported by the available data on impact cratering. Their hypothesis is based on insufficient and ambiguous data, selective citation, and incomplete comprehension of previous research.

Notes: [Auszug] The question of whether the dinosaurs and other life forms were wiped out at the end of the Cretaceous period (66 million years ago) by a cosmic impact or by a more earthbound catastrophe may finally be answered with the discovery of glass tektites from the era in Haiti. The ...

Notes: [Auszug] Realizing the possibility that many kinds of organisms might be involved, we were prepared to use agar plates of different compositions ; but we were surprised to find that the microflora of the leaves is much more uniform than might be anticipated. We proceeded as follows : from different trees we ...

Notes: [Auszug] We have sampled the magnetic fraction of K-T boundary sediments from Furlo and Petriccio in Italy to characterize magnetite-bearing spheroids reported by Montanari et a?? Three types of microtektite-like spheroidal materials occur in K-T boundary sediments: sanidine-, glauconite-, and ...

Notes: [Auszug] THE idea that the Earth suffered an impact from a large extraterrestrial body at the Cretaceous/Tertiary (K/T) boundary 65 million years ago is now almost unanimously accepted, to judge from a recent conference in Houston*. Less consensus exists about the damage that might have been inflicted on ...

Notes: [Auszug] The hiatus assumed by McLean is the least likely explanation for extinctions at the Cretaceous-Tertiary boundary. McLean is confusing the sequence of the thermal events at the boundary and fails to consider the iridium peak, important evidence which we used to postulate a catastrophic (meteoritic) ...
