    Notes: Abstract The clinical benefit of iotrolan, a non-ionic dimeric contrast agent, was compared with the commonly used non-ionic contrast agent iopamidol, in a multicenter study in cerebral angiography. Iotrolan provided a diagnostic angiographic effect with a reduced rate of adverse events when compared with iopamidol. Heat sensations at the site of iotrol an injection were apparently milder than with iopamidol, and no effects on hematology, blood biochemistry or urinalysis were observed. The clinical benefit of iotrolan, assessed after consideration of imaging efficacy and overall safety, was good.

    Notes: Abstract A comparative randomised open study was carried out in 120 patients uncle undergoing cerebral angiography, to compare two low-osmolar contrast media (LOCM). All the patients participated voluntarily in the trial. Half the patients (n = 60) received sodium and meglumine ioxaglate (Hexabrix 320) and the other half (n = 60) iohexol (Omnipaque 300). Contrast agent efficacy was evaluated at the different cerebral levels explored. Adverse reactions were recorded immediately and 24 h post-administration. Diagnostic quality was considered excellent in 95% of cases with Omnipaque and in 97% of cases with Hexabrix. Image quality was excellent in 95%, of cases with Omnipaque and in 100 % of cases with Hexabrix. In terms of both efficacy and safety, no significant difference was observed between the agents. Thus, low osmolality would appear to be the essential factor in this indication as far as safety is concerned. No significant difference in safety was noted between the ionic LOCM Hexabrix and the non-ionic LOCM Omnipaque.

    Description / Table of Contents: Résumé La latéralisation de la partie postérieure du lobe temporal et du lobe pariétal inférieur chez l'enfant a été étudiée en TDM sur 276 cas et comparée avec celle de l'adulte dans 371 cas. Les images TDM des ramifications médullaires de la substance blanche cérébrale furent analysées. Chez l'enfant en dessous de 5 ans d'âge, le planum temporale gauche est plus postérieur que le droit dans 56 % des cas; le droit est plus postérieur dans 21 %. L'asymétrie du gyrus temporal moyen est similaire à celle du planum temporal. La plicature (gyration) du lobule pariétal inférieur est massive et importante du côté gauche dans 63 % et dans 8 % du côté droit, chiffre à peu près identique à ceux de l'adulte. Le degré de visualisation du sillon intrapariétal est inférieur à celui de l'adulte mais la meilleure visualisation du côté gauche est un phénomène commun quel que soit l'âge incriminé. Ces altérations droitegauche semblent être le substrat morphologique des processus de localisation de la fonction auditive dans ces zones d'association.
    Notes: Summary Lateralization of the posterior temporal lobe and inferior parietal lobule in childhood was studied on CT of 276 cases and compared with those in adulthood of 371 cases. CT images were analized based on the morphological features of medullary branches of the cerebral white matter. In children below 5 years of age, the left planum temporale was already more posteriorly located than the right in 56%, while the right was more so in 21%. The asymmetry of the middle temporal gyrus was similar to those of the planum temporale. The folding of the inferior parietal lobule was extensive and intricate on the left side in 63% and on the right side in 8% of children, almost identical to those in the adult. The visualization rates of the intraparietal sulcus were lower compared to those of the adult, but the higher visualization of the left side was a common tendency regardless of age. These alterations in left-right asymmetry seemed to be a morphologic substratum indicating the processes of localization of auditory function to those association areas.

    Notes: Summary The basiparallel cut is a nearly horizontal slice of the posterior fossa used in air study and the structures are observed on a plane parallel to the clivus. Total shrinkage of the cerebellum, with or without fourth ventricle dilatation, was found in cases of olivopontocerebellar atrophy, some intoxications, and a few senile subjects. Some atrophy of paleocerebellar portions was seen in Holmes-type degeneration. Another pattern was symmetric shrinkage of neocerebellar lobules and relatively specific for the cases of ‘multiple system atrophy’ such as progressive supranuclear palsy, striatonigral degeneration, Marie's ataxia, etc. Loss of the superior cerebellar peduncle was clearly demonstrated in this view.

    Notes: Summary Neuroradiological findings in a 44-year-old male with the typical mild type of Hunter's disease are reported. Cranial MRI revealed patchy areas of increased and decreased signals in T1- and T2-weighted images in the thalamus and the basal ganglia giving rise to a honey comb-like appearance as a whole. The deep white matter showed high signals in the T2-weighted image. To our knowledge, the honey comb-like appearance has never been reported in this disorder. Deposition of mucopolysaccharides and/or glycolipids and increase in fluid content seem to be responsible for these changes.

    Notes: Summary Fourteen cases with psychomotor seizure were examined by pneumoencephalotomographic technique. In all cases uni- or bilateral changes of the inferior horn were found: diverticular dilatation of subiculum, lowering and irregularity of the floor, reduction of width, and deformation of digitation. These findings correlated well with the autopsy reports. In most cases, EEG findings also correlated.
