Notes: [Auszug] IF crystalline myosin is made to act on adenosine triphosphate it splits off one phosphate. If the reaction is allowed to proceed to completion and the dephosphorylated product is added to actomyosin, prepared from pure actin and pure myosin, no contraction occurs. If, however, a small amount ...

Notes: [Auszug] BEFORE the War my laboratory was supported by the Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation, New York, receiving 3,000 dollars a year. This help enabled me to work without limitation and publish without restriction. During the War, this help ceased and forced me to seek the help of industry. I worked out a ...

Notes: [Auszug] WE have been led to regard ‘myosin’ as a rather involved system of substances, in spite of the fact that it readily crystallizes and behaves as a homogeneous substance on recrystallization. It consists of a skeleton to which are adsorbed a number of protein like substances. The skeleton, and ...

Notes: [Auszug] THE failure to explain biological reactions by chemical formulæ and correlate biological activity to chemical structure indicates that our basic conception of the structure of living matter, expressed in these chemical formulæ, is incorrect. This conception may be summed up by saying that ...

Notes: [Auszug] It is an interesting property of the 'window field' that its time integral is independent of the sharpness of the borderline of the wave of depolarization, and that the time integral of the component of the field parallel to the axis is identical for any point of the cross-section. It is equally ...

Notes: [Auszug] Preparations of a suitable size for mechanical experiments were usually obtained by placing a strip of muscle in a relaxing solution (Table 1) a^room temperature (20-25 C) and subdividing the strip into fibre bundles about 50-200 ^m thick and 50-500 /im wide. In some experiments individual fibre ...

Jedoch erst in relativ hohen Dosen.

Notes: [Auszug] IN a previous paper (Biochem. Z., 181, 433; 1927) it was shown that extracts of the adrenal cortex strongly reduce silver nitrate and iodine. This reduction could not be accounted for either by adrenalin or glutathione, and seemed to be specific to the interrenal tissue. To exclude any ...

Notes: [Auszug] The tension response of a chemically skinned fibre bundle to an activation-relaxation sequence is shown in Fig. la. There was no tension development in relaxing solution ([Ca2+]〈 1010 M) and maximal development in activating solution ([Ca2+] = 1(T48M). Treatment with EDTA at 25 C removed both ...

Notes: [Auszug] The regulatory domain of scallop myosin is a three-chain protein complex that switches on this motor in response to Ca2+ binding. This domain has been crystallized and the structure solved to 2.8 Å resolution. Side-chain interactions link the two light chains in tandem to ...
