Notes: Under high-dosage boron implant, the implant condition was found to be important for reducing the transient-enhanced diffusion of boron in Si and forming shallow p+n junction with good rectifying characteristics as well as high dopant concentration in the diffused region. The BF2+-implantation resulted in not only an excellent dopant activation but also a reduced anomalous diffusion due to the formation of amorphous layer and the scarce defects underneath the amorphous/crystalline (a/c) interface. The B+-implanted crystalline samples manifested a poor activation efficiency, and a largely anomalous diffusion at the high temperature with prolonged-time annealing ascribed to much damage induced by the high-dose implant. The B+-implanted pre-Si+-amorphized samples also displayed severely transient-enhanced diffusion in spite of the good dopant activation.

Notes: Anomalous diffusion of ion-implanted boron in silicon has been suppressed by using the laser annealing (LA) technique. For the rapid thermal annealing process, the high-dosage boron implant significantly enhanced the anomalous diffusion of boron in Si largely due to increased density of interstitial clusters. The mechanism that electrically active dopants contribute to diffusion is confirmed. The dopant activation is primarily determined from the heating process rather than the holding time interval. Hence, the optimum annealing regime, attaining high-performance shallow p+-n junctions, is to increase the dopant activation efficiency during the temperature-ramping process as well as to shorten the holding interval. Having an ultrahigh heating rate, the LA technique serves as an excellent annealing scheme to significantly suppress the anomalous diffusion and considerably promote the dopant activation.

Notes: Abstract Second-harmonic generation and spectroscopic absorption measurements were made to study the non-linear optical and stability properties of guest/host polycarbonate thin films in which the guest chromophores were oriented by corona poling. Optimum poling conditions were achieved at temperatures less than the glass-rubber transition temperatures. Stabilized order parameters as high as 0.23 and retention of orientational order as high as 86% were found. Stable, resonance-enhanced, values of the non-linear optical coefficient d 33, for the fundamental of 1.064 Μm, were as high as 31 pm V−1. This value is over four times that predicted by a simple thermodynamic model for isotropic materials. Hydrogen bonding between the guest and polycarbonate is proposed to account for the high d 33 coefficients and long-term stability of the films.

Notes: Summay A suite of potassic alkaline volcanites is spatially and temporally associated with rapakivi granites which are related to Proterozoic (1.85 to 1.40 Ga) rifting in the Beijing area. The volcanites are spread along an EW-trending 150 km long sea basin rift and the rapakivi granites were emplaced along a major EW-fault in nn adjacent uplifted region. The alkaline magmatism is comparable to the middle Proterozoic anorogenic magmatism in North America and Fennoscandia and is related to incipient breakup of the craton they intrude. The volcanic rocks and the rapakivi granites show within plate affinities. They also have similar overall REE distribution patterns that are enriched in LREE. The rapakivi granites show larger negative Eu anomalies than the volcanites. The data suggest that the rapakivi granites were crystallised from a more evolved magma than the volcanic rocks.

Notes: Abstract The solution of the tenth order problem of two-dimensionally homogeneous isotropic shallow shear-deformable elastic shells is expressed in terms of three functions, one of them solution of a second order equation and two of them solutions of two simultaneous fourth order equations, in such a way that known results for shear-deformable plates and for non-sheardeformable shells appear directly as special cases.

Notes: Abstract We investigate the numerical consequences of the presence of certain non-linear terms in the expressions for the components of transverse shearing strain which occur in the derivation of one-dimensional equations for small finite deflections of straight beams from three-dimensional finite elasticity through use of the principle of minimum potential energy. While particular emphasis is placed on the effect of warping stiffness, the paper also includes results of interest in connection with the classical Michell-Prandtl-analysis of lateral buckling of endloaded cantilevers. Comprehensive numerical results are obtained for the entire range of the relevant dimensionless parameters, using power series, asymptotic expansion and modern numerical methods procedures.
