Notes:
Summary The fresh volume of the striatum of 59 white mice with an age of between 15 and 153 days of ontogenesis has been determined. The striatum of the left is significantly larger than that of the right. The increase of the volume (y) of the striatum yields a S-formed figure, here analysed by the Logistic function $$y = \frac{C}{{1 + e^{A(T - W)} }}$$ The parameters have been approximated by means of an iterative proceeding by the leastsquare-method. The “ideal” volume (C) of the striatum with its confidence limits (95%) is 25.2±1.4 mm3. The half-value-time of the striatum is 25.8±0.6 days of ontogenesis, that is the time when the volume of the striatum has increased up the half the “ideal” volume (C/2). The striatum of the newborn white mouse enlarges up to the “ideal” volume by factor of 5.8±0.9. In our sample the volume of the striatum increases in a non-linear function in proportion to the cerebral volume. The regression coefficient A amounts to 0.059±0.003, the absolute constant B amounts to −1.7±0.9 and the correlation coefficient to 0.986. The striatum develops late ontogenetically, as compared with the rhombencephalon and corpus amygdaloideum, and early as compared with the cerebellum. The half-value-time of the striatum is less significantly different from the prosencephalon, neocortex and hippocampus-formation. The development of the striatum near the half-value-time is significantly slower in rate than that of neocortex, hippocampusformation and cerebellum.
