Notes: Abstract A Penning plasma laser (PPL) operating at the NeI 585.3 nm and NeI 1.15 μm lines in Ne-H2 mixture has been realized. Helical configuration of the electrodes was used. The dependence of the laser-pulse shape and output power on current pulse duration and amplitude values were investigated. Peak output powers of 1.5 W for the yellow line and 1.2 W for the IR line have been measured. The population inversion mechanism for the 585.3 nm line is discussed in the frames of a model for PPL. The main factor maintaining the population inversion on both lines is depopulation of the Ne(1s 2) level by Penning reactions with H2.

Notes: Abstract It is shown that the dynamic mixing of phase trajectories in a system of classical Coulomb particles does not result in the recombination described by the kinetic equations. The effect of the imprecision of the computational method and the effect of permutation of the particle velocities on recombination relaxation is studied. The imprecision of the numerical integration of the dynamical equations results in a loss of reversibility of the solution and in anomalously slow (in exact calculations) relaxation. If the permutations of the particle velocities are made with a rate higher than the rate of Coulomb collisions, recombination relaxation proceeds in accordance with kinetic theory.

Notes: Abstract An analysis is made of an electrically neutral system of two small positive charges surrounded by a common cloud of Boltzmann-distributed electrons. This system, which simulates macroparticle interaction in a dusty plasma, is called a Debye quasimolecule. Calculations are made of the force and potential interaction energy of shielded dust particles as a function of the distance between them. It is shown that the electron shells are polarized so that the forces of attraction of the dust particles in a Debye quasimolecule predominate over the forces of repulsion of their like charges. This may occur up to distances equal to the size of the dust particles. It is concluded that metastable dusty liquids and crystals cannot exist when the electron clouds of the charged particles obey a Boltzmann distribution.

Notes: Abstract A theoretical model is proposed that describes the main kinetic mechanisms operating in a dust plasma formed upon the bulk ionization of a dense gas by a hard factor. An expression is derived for the ion density distribution around a charged dust particle. It is shown that ions in the plasma recombine with charged dust particles according to the Langevin mechanism. A condition is established under which the dust particles are bearing all the negative charge in the plasma, compensated by the positive charge of ion clouds. A new criterion for manifestation of the collective properties in the dust plasma is formulated.

Notes: Abstract The properties of equilibrium thermoelectron clouds surrounding dust particles with large surface charge density were studied based on a rigorous solution of the Poisson-Boltzmann equation in a planar case. According to this theory, an equilibrium charge of a particle is markedly lower than the values obtained in the experiment. It is suggested that the thermoemissive dust plasma studied in experiments is supercooled with respect to the degree of ionization.

Notes: Abstract Different types of stochastic action on the stationary state of a classical Coulomb plasma, manifested in earlier studies, are investigated from first principles by numerical simulation. The effect on the electron distribution resulting from the following is investigated: errors of numerical simulation, “rough” walls, adjustable stochastization of electron velocities, and random electron collisions with two-level atoms. It is shown that a substantial deformation of the electron distribution in total energy is generated by stochastic action alone, varying the energy of individual electrons (adjustable stochastization, inelastic collisions, and so on).

Notes: Abstract The equation of state is obtained for an ion-ion plasma which is stable with respect to recombination processes. The regions of thermodynamic stability of a nonideal plasma and of mixtures of such a plasma with an ideal plasma are determined by considering isotherms. It is shown that such a plasma-gas mixture possesses elastic properties.
