    Notes: Fatigue crack growth behaviour under mixed modes I and II was studied by applying in-phase alternating tensile and torsional loading to a thin-walled hollow cylindrical specimen with an initial crack.In the linear region of a log-log plot where da/dN=A(ΔK)m, da/dN at first decreases with increasing ΔK110 component and then approaches a minimum close to the value of ΔK110/ΔK10∼ 0.58; here ΔK110/ΔK10 is the ratio of the initial ΔKII to the initial ΔK1., When ΔK110/ΔK10 increases further, da/dN increases. Under shear mode, da/dN becomes higher than that under mode I. The ΔK1, and ΔK11 components during fatigue crack growth under mixed mode loading increase and decrease, respectively, with an increase in da/dN In the low crack growth rate region the fatigue crack growth rates accelerate with an increase of the initial ΔK11 component, ΔK110. Fatigue life increases with increase of ΔK110/ΔK10 under the test condition of equivalent stress range being kept constant and the pre-crack length being the same.

    Description / Table of Contents: Übersicht Unter Zugrundelegung der Deformationstheorie der Plastizität wird die Spannungsverteilung in der Nähe eines Randrisses mit endlichem Radius für den Fall des nichtebenen Schubspannungszustandes (Mode III) und eines dehnungsverfestigenden Materials gegeben. Die angenäherte Lösung wird durch Verwendung der Ergebnisse von Neuber sowie dem J-Integral von Rice in analytischer Form erhalten.
    Notes: Summary Based on a deformation theory of plasticity, the stress distribution near an edge crack having finite root radius in strain-hardening material is given for the case of antiplane shear (Mode III). The approximate solution is derived in an analytical form by using Neuber's result and integral J by Rice.

    Notes: Conclusion It is very interesting that stochastic process model, paying no speculation on detailed atomic mechanisms, can be applied reasonably in many types of fracture and failure of metallic and non-metallic materials. Especially in the case of yielding of mild steel, the experimental results are in good agreement with the prediction of the theory as a stochastic process based on the present dislocation theory in terms of atomic mechanism. This indicates that general concepts of the stochastic process theory of yielding of mild steel as well as the dislocation theory of yielding are correct. The experimental data available at the present time appear not sufficient to evaluate the relative merits of the several atomic theories proposed which may be constructed by employing different detailed dislocation models. Consequently, in this respect it would be very valuable to investigate the scatter characteristics of delay time for the initiation of yielding of mild steel under constant applied stress to check whether such eqn. [1] or [4] exists in this case or not, and to study the frequency distribution of upper yield stress at the constant rate of stress application at low temperatures.

    Description / Table of Contents: Résumé Un essai a été fait pour examiner la différence dans le compottement entre la fatigue uni-axiale et la fatigue dùe à une torsion répétée. Dans le but Weliminer Veffet du gradient de contrainte, des models cylindriques creux à paroies minces ont été utilisés. Des tests de fatigue à basses frequences sur de Vacier doux ont été effectués dans le cas de chargement uni-axial et torsionel, en gardant constante Vamplitude de la tension.
    Abstract: Zusammenfassung Die Unterschiede zwischen dem Dauerbruch infolge einachsiger Belastung und dem infolge wiederholter Torsionsbelastung wurden untersucht. Um den Einfluss der Spannungsgradienten auszuschalten wurden duennwandige Hohlzylinder als Versuchsgegenstand benutzt. Nieder-Frequenzversuche an weichem Stahl under einachsiger- and unter Torsion-Belastung mit konstanter Dehnungsamplitude wurden durchgefuehrt.
    Notes: Abstract An attempt has been made to examine any differences in behavior between uni-axial fatigue and repeated torsion fatigue. In order to eliminate the stress gradient effect, thin-walled hollow cylindrical specimens were used. Low cycle fatigue tests of mild steel were conducted in uni-axial and torsional loading at constant strain amplitude.

    Description / Table of Contents: Résumé On a étudié l'effet de l'application d'une distribution non lineaire de contrainte, sur la concentration des contraintes de dislocations entassées, dans le cas d'un gradient de contrainte linéaire. Le résultat montre que la contrainte concentrée est déterminée, par la moyenne de la contrainte appliquée au plan de clivage et indépendente de la valeur maximum de la contrainte de la distribution des contraintes appliquées. Dans cette note, nous considèrerons un type plus général de champs de contraintes appliquées non uniformément.
    Abstract: Zusammenfassung Der Einfluss ungleichfoermiger auesserer Spannungsverteilungen auf die Spannungskonzentration angesammelter Versetzungen ist untersucht worden fuer den Fall linearer Spannungsgradienten. Das Ergebnis zeigt, dass die Spannungskonzentration durch die ueber die Gleitebene gemittelte Spannung bestimmt wird and unabhaengig von dem Groesstwert der angwandten Spannungsverteilung ist. In diesem Artikel werden allgemeinere Typen ungleichfoermiger auesserer Spannungsfelder betrachtet.
    Notes: Abstract The effect of non-uniformly applied stress distribution upon the stress concentration of piled-up dislocations was studied(1) in the case of linear or straight stress gradient. The result shows that the concentrated stress is determined by the averaged stress over the slip plane, independent of the maximum stress value of the applied stress distribution. In this note, we now consider a more general type of non-uniformly applied stress field.

Des calculs numeréques approchés sont en bon accord avec la dépendance en orientation de la contrainte de fracture de monocristaux de zinc, obtenue experimentalement par Deruytters et Greenough.
    Abstract: Zusammenfassung Der Artikel betrachtet ein Bruchmodell, bei dem eine unendliche Reihe hintereinanderliegender Risse durch plastisches Fliessen verursacht wird. Unter Benutzung eines Energie-Kriteriums werden Brüche betrachtet, wie sie Bullough-Gilman and Zener-Strop angegeben haben. Die Ergebnisse werden mit denen verglichen, die von Bullough für einen isolierten Riss abgeleitet wurden. Numerische Abschätzung erster Näherung zeigt eine gute Übereinstimmung mit der experimentell von Deruyttere and Greenough erhaltenen Orientierungsabhängigkeit der Bruchspannung bei Zinkeinkristallen.
    Notes: Abstract The paper considers a fracture model consisting of an infinite row of collinear cracks formed as a result of plastic flow. Bullough-Gilman and Zener-Stroh type cracks are studied using an energy criterion. The results are compared with those for an isolated crack derived by Bullough. Numerical calculations in a first approximation shows good agreement with the experimental orientation dependence of the fracture stress of zinc single crystals by lleruyttere and Greenough.
