Continuing the investigation of the series of isostructural 1D magnets (CH3)3NHMX3⋅2H2O (M=Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, X=Cl, Br), we report on the first powder study of FeTAB,(CH3)3NHFeBr3⋅2H2O. X-ray studies show FeTAB to be isostructural with FeTAC, a good example of a 1D Ising ferromagnet. Low-temperature powder susceptibility data agree with the predicted susceptibility of a ferromagnetic 1D Ising model with an exchange constant of 4.0(1.0) K. Mössbauer spectroscopy has shown the ordering temperature to be near 1.3(1) K. The data imply that the ratio of the interchain to intrachain interactions (J'/J) is at least 10 times greater in FeTAB than in the chloride analog.
