Notes: Abstract We prove that euclidean minimal spanning trees correctly reconstruct differentiable arcs from sufficiently dense samples. The proof is based on a combinatorial characterization of minimal spanning paths and on a description of the local geometry of ares inside tubular neighborhoods. We also present simple heuristics for reconstruting more general curves.

Notes: Abstract In computer graphics we use techniques from different areas of mathematics. Mathematical models are used to simulate real-world objects, as well as natural phenomena. In order to understand these models and pose relevant problems in each particular field of this area, it is important to create levels of abstraction. These levels encapsulate common properties of the different models and allow us to have a global, conceptual view of the methods and techniques in each field. In this paper we study a paradigm for creating abstraction levels that can also be used to characterize more general problems in computational applied mathematics. We apply this paradigm to different areas of computer graphics: modeling, animation, illumination, color theory, image processing and human-computer interface.

Notes: Abstract We introduce the concept of graphical objects, the abstraction paradigms to study them, and their applications in computer graphics. Intuitively, graphical objects encompass all the entities manipulated in a graphics system. This notion makes it possible to unify similar research topics appearing in the literature separately. We study the problem of object metamorphosis, which includes the problem of image metamorphosis. Although we are not primarily concerned with implementation issues in this paper, the concepts we introduce can be exploited for system design and development that use object-oriented programming.
