Magnetic properties of bimetallic compounds (Me4N)2[Cu(TIM)(MX4)2] and (Et4N)2[Cu(TIM)(MX4)2] (TIM=2,3,9,10-tetramethyl-1,3,8,10-tetraimine-1,4,8,11- tetraazacyclotetradecane; M=Cu(II), Mn(II), Co(II); X=Cl−,Br−) are reported here. These compounds contain linear M-Cu-M trimeric arrangements in which the spin of M assumes values of 1/2, 3/2, or 5/2. Their magnetic susceptibilities are measured and the magnetic susceptibility expressions for these Heisenberg and Ising systems are obtained. The coupling constants between Cu-M sites are determined by fitting the experimental results to the corresponding models. The value of J/k vary from ∼−15 to ∼20 K with the Co(II) and Mn(II) complexes exhibiting antiferromagnetic coupling while the Cu(II) salts have ferromagnetic exchange coupling.
