Description / Table of Contents: Summary The variational theorem according to Reissner for the circular cylindrical shell is reduced to an extensive system of 1st order ordinary differential equations by polynomials of 2nd order, defined for finite strips only. Neglecting transverse shear deformation, the differential equations are decreased in number. The general solution is found in form of exponential functions. Results are given for an open shell which is rigidly clamped at one edge and free of forces at the other edges. Three cases of temperature distribution are considered. For one case the numerical results are compared with those according to a more accurate theory, for another case with experimental values.

Notes: Summary Scanning electron microscopical investigations on the normal glandular area of the Cervix uteri were performed. 5 uteri, ranging between the 34th and the 42th year of life were examined. These investigations yield, beside the already known plicae palmatae, a treble subdivision of the surface structure of the cervical canal: The upper cervical canal, rich in villons structures the intermediary portion, rich in crater-like structures the lower cervical canal, which is structurally less differentiated. The glandular cells are either in a state of secretory activity or of no secretory activity at all. There is no morphologically definable cervical cycle. Secretory activity, however, decreases from the upper cervical canal to the lower cervical canal. This is in accordance with former investigations of ours.
