Abstract A data-acquisition system suitable for the collection of brain evoked potentials destined to be processed on an individual basis is described. System specifications and possible alternatives for achieving them are discussed in the light of the requirements of this particular application. Details of the circuit design, including mathematical derivations, are provided so that systems tailored to the needs of the user may be constructed. Results of extensive testing of units built in our laboratory indicate that the requirements of extremely low noise and low distortion are met by the chosen design; and that it is therefore well suited to use in the modern evoked response laboratory.
