Notes: Limiting molar conductances of the K+ and Cl− ions in heavy and light water have been determined at 25 °C as a function of pressure up to 2 kbar from the measured conductances and transference numbers of KCl. The residual friction coefficients (Δζ) are obtained for the cation and the anion in D2O and H2O by using the determined limiting conductance and the bulk viscosity of solvent and compared with the corresponding values predicted by applying the Hubbard–Onsager (HO) dielectric friction theory at various pressures below 1 kbar. At atmospheric and high pressures Δζ of the K+ ion in D2O is larger than that in H2O just as predicted by the HO theory, but Δζ of the Cl− ion in D2O is smaller than that in H2O on the contrary to the theoretical prediction. The reverse solvent isotope effect on Δζ(Cl−) suggests that a microscopic viscosity in the vicinity of the relatively large ion is smaller than the bulk viscosity used in the continuum theory.

Notes: Summary Following the intraocular injection of 6-hydroxydopamine, which can destroy the retinal dopaminergic neurons, female rats showed a normal estrous cycle in LD 12∶12 but not a persistent estrus in continuous light.

Notes: Abstract A high-power, line-tunable NH3 laser pumped by a TEA CO2 laser has been developed for application to laser isotope separation of tritium. Laser lines from15NH3 are newly observed in a range from 11.24 to 13.23 μm. The performance of an15NH3 laser is compared to that of an14NH3 laser.

Notes: Abstract Some fundamental problems on the optical method of caustics, which is used to determine the value of the stress-intensity factor, are studied. The paper shows that the radiusr o of the initial curve considerably affects the results and describes a method to eliminate this effect. This method is also applied to the biaxial-stress fracture problem. It is shown that the biaxial stress affects the fracture toughness of thin specimens of Plexiglas sheets and that the fatigue-crack-growth rate is increased due to the compressive stress along the crack line.

Notes: Abstract Expectation values of the total spinS of nucleons in nuclei are very quenched. This quenching is shown to be hardly explained by the mixture ofΔ-hole states. The quenching thus provides the best evidence for the role of non-central parts of the nucleon-nucleon interaction, especially the tensor interaction.

Notes: Abstract The effect of quark exchange between different nucleons on the one pion exchange potential is studied in the framework of the resonating group method. The calculated phase shifts including the one pion exchange potential with quark exchange in addition to the one gluon plusσ meson exchange are shown to be consistent with experiments. Especially thep-wave phase shifts are improved by taking into account the quark exchange on the one pion exchange potential.

Description / Table of Contents: Verbindungsbildung im System PbGeO3—Pb5Ge3O11Die Verbindungsbildung im System PbGeO3—Pb5Ge3O11 wurde mittels Thermoanalyse und Hochtemperatur-Röntgenbeugung untersucht.
Notes: Compound formation in the system PbGeO3—Pb5Ge3O11 was studied by thermal analysis and high-temperature X-ray diffraction. New modifications of PbGeO3 and Pb5Ge3O11 were prepared by the simultaneous hydrolysis of lead and germanium alkoxides, followed by washing and drying; the former has a hexagonal unit cell with a = 15.573 Å and c = 7.240 Å, and the latter has an orthorhombic crystal structure with a = 5.081 Å, b = 7.301 Å and c = 8.817 Å. They are transformed to the known monoclinic and hexagonal modifications at 575 to 610°C and 410 to 450°C, respectively. No compound of Pb3Ge2O7 was confirmed. The structures of germanate groups in the lead germanate compounds are discussed on the basis of the infrared spectral data.
