    Notizen: Abstract An analytical procedure was developed for the determination of tritium in urine. The content of contaminants in urine after treatment is reduced markedly so that no influence is expected on tritium measurements by a liquid scintillation counter. The established analytical procedure was successfully applied for urine from the general public in Japan.

    Notizen: Abstract Tritium concentrations were analyzed for coastal seawater and lake water collected from various places in Japan. Low tritium concentrations were observed for coastal seawater of small islands and it was attributed to a short residence time of the ground-water in such a small island. Tritium concentrations in lake water showed a significant variation. And it was revealed that the size of the lake and its drainage area were the dominant factors controlling the tritium concentrations in lakes.

    Notizen: Abstract To examine the radionuclide concentrations in the environment, seaweeds were collected once a year since 1976 at two different places. A marked change was observed in the number of radionuclides in seaweeds. The increase of radionuclides is attributed to contamination by radioactive fallout from Chinese nuclear explosion tests. The radionuclide concentrations were strongly dependent on the species of seaweeds. A gradual decrease of the137Cs/40K activity ratio was observed in spite of the input of additional137Cs fallout from Chinese nuclear tests. This implies that the amounts of137Cs introduced into seawater by these detonations were small in comparison with those already contained in seawater. The cesium content in seawater was estimated by using specific activities of137Cs in seaweeds and137Cs concentration in seawater. The results show good agreement with the reported values by direct analysis of seawater.

    Notizen: Abstract The solvent extraction method for characterization of strong complexing agents in natural waters has been developed. The titration curve the relationship between the concentration of a metal added in a sample solution and that of the metal in the organic phase after extraction, has been modelled on the basis of Ringbom's theory. The concentration of the metal in the organic phase is easily calibrated by the activities of the radioisotopic spike. The conditional stability products for complexation of natural ligands with cobalt (57Co), manganese (54Mn) and zinc (65Zn) were calculated from the titration curves.
