    Notes: We present phosphorescence wavelength selected optically detected magnetic resonance (ODMR) experiments on some aromatic molecules in organic glasses. The change of the ODMR frequency and width as a function of phosphorescence wavelength is interpreted in terms of a spinless stochastic Hamiltonian which describes the interaction between the probe molecule and the solvent. It is shown that the phonons in the optical spectra have a significant influence on the parameters of the ODMR profile.

    Notes: Full-fat soybean flakes were extracted with supercritical carbon dioxide (SC-CO2) at pressures of 10,600–12,400 psi, temperatures from 80–100°C, and moisture levels of 5–13.5%. Conditions could be selected to produce defatted soybean meals with nitrogen solubility indices greater than 70% and flavor scores greater than 6.5 on a scale of 1 to 10 (1 = strong and 10 = bland). The usual grassy-beany and bitter flavors of hexane-defatted soybean flours were only minimally detectable in the optimally SC-CO2-extracted materials. Bland, defatted soybean meal prepared by SC-CO2 extraction was further processed into high-quality protein concentrates and isolates that were stable when stored under adverse conditions.

    Notes: Summary The Adenoma-Carcinoma Sequence of the Colon and Rectum Morphological and epidemiological arguments in favour of an adenoma-carcinoma concept of evolution in the development of colorectal cancers are presented. It is highly probable that most colorectal cancers arise in adenomas. Therefore detection and endoscopic removal of adenomas is a means of reducing the incidence of colorectal carcinomas.

    Notes: Abstract We investigate the ability of a relativistic Mean-Field theory to reproduce nuclear ground state properties by an exhaustive fit to experimental data. We find that the bulk properties of nuclei from16O to208Pb can be adjusted very well. There remain problems with level density and fluctuations in the charge density similar as in fits using the conventional Skyrme Hartree-Fock model.

    Description / Table of Contents: Short time treatments (t ≦ 300 s) of polyethylene and polypropylene films in a nonthermal plasma of O2 and NH3 radiofrequency glow discharges lead to the formation of functional groups and therefore to a significant increase of adhesion of vapour deposited aluminium. The deposition of thin layers of glow polymers from silancs and acrylic acid gave also a high level of adhesion. In the case of oxygen plasma modification of polypropylene, the aluminium was strongly oxidized along the interface by simultaneous reduction of O-functional groups on the polypropylene surface, corresponding t o the high negative value of redox potential of aluminium. The cause of increased adhesion may be a higher electrostatic attraction or the formation of chelate-like complexes between aluminia and the oxidized surface of polypropylene.
    Notes: Die kurzzeitige Behanlung (t ≦ 300 s) von Polyethylen- und Polypropylenfolien im nichtthermischen Plasma von O2- und NH3-Hochfrequenz-Glimmentladungen und die damit verbundene Schaffung von funktionellen Gruppen an der Polymeroberfläche führte zu erheblichen Verbesserungen der Adhäsion von aufgedampften Aluminiumschichten. Als ähnlich günstig erwies sich die Abscheidung von haftvermittelnden Glimmpolymerschichten aus Silan- und Acrylsäre. Im Falle des im O2-Plasma vorbehandelten Polypropylens wurde das Aluminium entsprechend seinem stark negativen Redoxpotential durch die O-funktionellen Oberflächengruppen des Polypropylens an der Verbundgrenzfläche oxidiert. Als Ursache für die erhöhte Adhäsion wird eine verstärkte elektrostatische Anziehung der Verbundkomponenten oder die Bildung von Al—O—C-Komplexen diskutiert.
