Notizen: A semiconductor detector is applied for measurement of high energy end loss ions (E≥15 keV) from a tandem mirror. Its energy sensitivity to protons calibrated by using a monochromatic ion source is found to be the same as that to electrons. The semiconductor detector is installed on an end wall of the GAMMA 10 tandem mirror and high energy end loss ions are observed with the detector when ions in the confinement region are strongly heated by ion cyclotron waves. Counts of high energy end loss ions are closely related with a diamagnetic signal representing ion heating. The energy of the end loss ions spreads with time and attains to 50–60 keV. Time behavior of the ion count suggests that unknown loss processes other than classical Coulomb scattering are relevant to ion end loss. © 1997 American Institute of Physics.

Notizen: Abstract The sulfur tolerance of Pd-Pt bimetallic catalysts supported on various zeolites was investigated for the hydrogenation of tetralin. The reaction was carried out at a hydrogen pressure of 3.9 MPa at 553 K in the presence of dibenzothiophene at a sulfur concentration of 500 wtppm. The coexistence of Pt with Pd on USY zeolite (SiO2/Al2O3=680) greatly enhanced the tetralin hydrogenation activity and improved the sulfur tolerance, which depended on the Pd/Pt ratio and reached a maximum at a Pd : Pt mole ratio of 4 : 1. The influence of the support material, such as USY zeolite (SiO2/Al2O3=15.0), HY zeolite, HL zeolite, and H-mordenite, on the hydrogenation activity and selectivity and on the sulfur tolerance, was also investigated for the bimetallic Pd-Pt(4 : 1) catalyst. For maximizing the hydrogenation selectivity while minimizing the yield of cracked products and gases, the Pd-Pt(4 : 1) catalyst on USY zeolite (SiO2/Al2O3=680) was more effective than Pd-Pt on the other supports, although its sulfur tolerance was lower.

Notizen: Abstract Purpose: Our purpose was to determine the association of calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II (CaMK II ) with oocyte activation and to explore the network of protein kinases during mammalian fertilization. Methods: Mouse M-II oocytes were collected after superovulation induced by PMSG-hCG injection. The oocytes were inseminated or artificially activated by Ca ionophore (A23187) or 12-O-tetradecanoyl phorbol 13-acetate (TPA). The effects of KN-62, a specific and selective inhibitor of calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II, on second polar body emission (2PBE), pronuclearformation (PF), and cortical granule exocytosis (CGE) during fertilization or after artificial oocyte activation were investigated. Results: KN-62 inhibited 2PBE and PF after sperm or Ca ionophore inducing activation. Additionally, PF was inhibited by KN-62 after TPA activation, whereas KN-62 did not inhibit CGE in any case. KN-04, an inactive form of KN-62, did not inhibit significantly 2PBE, CGE, or PF. When oocytes were exposed to KN-62 after Ca ionophore or TPA activation, no inhibitory effects on 2PBE or PF were observed. Conclusions: The CaMK II activation that occurs after fertilization or artificial activation of mouse oocytes is presumably secondary to increases in the intracellular free calcium concentration. As determined by the use of inhibitor, CaMK II activity is associated with 2PBE and PF but not with CGE.
