Notes: Abstract We examined changes in the blood flow rate in the course of jejunal ischemic injury using a laser Doppler flowmeter. For this purpose, we designed a sensor holding system, which involved the fixation of the sensor to the jejunum and allowed their movements to be synthronized. When the jejunum was reperfused after 10 min of ischemia, the blood flow rate markedly increased and then gradually decreased to the initial level. A 30-min period of ischemia produced the slowest recovery of the blood flow rate. This system could be useful for monitoring the blood flow rate in different anatomical regions.

Notes: The WC/Co interface structures in WC-Co alloys doped with VC, Cr3C2 or ZrC wereexamined by high-resolution electron microscopy (HRTEM) and X-ray energy dispersive spectroscopy(EDS) with a special interest in the segregation behavior of respective dopants at the WC/Co interfaces. It was confirmed that the addition of VC or Cr3C2 were effective to reduce WC grain size while that ofZrC was not. In case of VC or Cr3C2-doped alloys, the morphology of WC grains largely changedcomparing with undoped and ZrC-doped alloys. The WC/Co interfaces of the two alloys tend to formmicro facets with (0001) and {1010} habits. EDS analysis with a sub-nano scale probe revealed thatthe dopants strongly segregated at the two habits. In contrast, such morphology change, and alsodopant segregation, could not be observed in ZrC-doped alloy. In our study, doped ZrC was not foundto solute in Co-phase. Doped ZrC distributed in Co-phase to form other grains mainly consisting ofZrC. The interface structures of WC/Co could be considered to be closely related to the inhibitioneffect to WC grain growth

Notes: Abstract  Toxic effects of a detriazinyl metabolite of almitrine (DTMA) were evaluated in rats and on cultured rat macrophages. In rats daily treated with DTMA for 16 weeks, spastic gaits with heel-lifting appeared, and lamellated and/or crystalloid bodies formed in sensory neurons, satellite cells, Schwann cells, and vascular endothelial cells of the dorsal root ganglia. The lysosomal lamellated bodies, which were not induced by almitrine, were produced also in cultured rat macrophages exposed to over 1×10–5 M DTMA.
