Notes: A solar-biogas system was designed to dry food more efficiently than with solar energy alone. Processed papaya waste was anaerobically fermented to produce methane to augment solar energy for food drying. A gas with a minimum of 50% methane was produced at a rate of 0.38 liter methane per liter of digester volume per day with an organic loading rate of 1.60g of total volatile solids in the waste per liter of digester liquid volume per day in a once-through system. Results indicate technical feasibility.

Notes: The BXD2 strain of mice is one of approximately 80 BXD recombinant inbred (RI) mouse strains derived from an intercross between C57BL/6J (B6) and DBA/2J (D2) strains. We have discovered that adult BXD2 mice spontaneously develop generalized autoimmune disease, including glomerulonephritis (GN), increased serum titres of rheumatoid factor (RF) and anti-DNA antibody, and a spontaneous erosive arthritis characterized by mononuclear cell infiltration, synovial hyperplasia, and bone and cartilage erosion. The features of lupus and arthritis developed by the BXD2 mice segregate in F2 mice generated by crossing BXD2 mice with the parental B6 and D2 strains. Genetic linkage analysis of the serum levels of anti-DNA and RF by using the BXD RI strains shows that the serum titers of anti-DNA and RF were influenced by a genetic locus on mouse chromosome (Chr) 2 near the marker D2Mit412 (78 cm, 163 Mb) and on Chr 4 near D4Mit146 (53.6 cm, 109 Mb), respectively. Both loci are close to the B-cell hyperactivity, lupus or GN susceptibility loci that have been identified previously. The results of our study suggest that the BXD2 strain of mice is a novel model for complex autoimmune disease that will be useful in identifying the mechanisms critical for the immunopathogenesis and genetic segregation of lupus and erosive arthritis.

Notes: In this paper, a teeth correction 3-D data modeling technology based on the basis ofoptical measurement is proposed. Using structured light measurement, the STL data of the teethplaster model are obtained. Based on STL data, the topological relationship model of vertices andplanes is constructed. The data of single tooth is separated with separation algorithm, and usingmatrix transform, geometrical transformation of teeth model is realized. Then, after establishingframe curves, the 3-D solid modeling of corrected tooth socket is constructed. At last, using theSLA technology, the colophony model of the remedying device is produced

Notes: Natural abundance proton-coupled 15N NMR spectra have been observed for pyridine and a series of mono- and disubstituted pyridines using polarization transfer achieved by the selective population transfer method. The magnitudes and signs of the 15N—1H spin-spin coupling constants between the ring-nitrogen and ring-protons are determined from complete iterative spectral analysis and/or selective population transfer experiments. Substituent effects on the 15N—1H coupling constants are discussed and compared with those for 13C—1H couplings in substituted benzenes.

Notes: The dynamic mechanical properties of carbon-fiber-reinforced, epoxy-matric-composite laminates subjected to loading perpendicular to the plane of lamination and of neat epoxy resin are reported. The dynamic mechanical measurements were performed in the frequency range from 0.1 to 40 Hz and at temperatures between 20° and 200°C at deformation levels within the linear viscoelastic region by the use of a Dynastat apparatus. It is found that thein-phase and out-of phase stiffnesses superpose to form master curves covering a frequency range of 12 decades. By a suitable scaling procedure of the master curves, it is found that thein-phase stiffiness has tbe same shape and the out-of-phase stiffness has the same dispersion for all laminates irrespective of the stacking sequence and are nearly identical to those for neat epoxy resin, An empirical function for the relaxation modulus is developed that, when converted to dynamic modulus, gives a good overall agreement for both components of the dynamic stiffness as a function of frequency. Absorbed moisture is found to cause a reduction in thhe elevated temperature mechanical properties of a laminate due to a reduction in the glass-transition temperature of the resin. It is also found thatthemositure absorption is a reversible process, in the sense that the initially dry properties of the laminate are recovered afterredrying the wet sample.
