Notes: Piezoelectric bimorphs were assessed for their capabilities to be used as control actuatorsfor vibration suppression of the print circuit boards (PCBs). Plate structures made of FR-4, a widelyused industrial-grade material for manufacture of PCBs, were considered. An advanced andstructured control algorithm, linear quadratic regulator with output feedback (LQROF), was used foractive vibration control of the PCB structures. Experimental results showed that the LQROF controlis a more robust algorithm than the classic control using the direct velocity feedback, andpiezoelectric bimorph actuators present a great potential for active vibration control of the PCBs, andsmart composites with embedded actuators

Notes: Two commercial hot-pressed boron carbide ceramics were investigated by transmission electron microscopy. Atomic-scale observations suggest that the grain boundaries of the two materials are free of grain-boundary films. Two triple-junction phases were found and characterized to be rhombohedral Fe2B103 and orthorhombic Ti3B4. In addition, intra-granular precipitates, AlN, Mo2(C, B) and graphite, were identified and found to have coherent relationships with the boron carbide matrix. Micron-scale inclusions were also observed and most of them were determined to be graphite. The formation mechanisms of the secondary phases and their possible influence on mechanical properties are also discussed.

Notes: Background : Recent studies suggest that the Helicobacter pylori eradication rate in patients with non-ulcer dyspepsia is lower when compared to patients with peptic ulcer diseases.Aim : The aim of this study was to study the efficacy of triple therapy for H. pylori infection in patients with duodenal ulcer vs. patients with non-ulcer dyspepsia. Methods : A total of 582 Chinese patients with proven H. pylori infection were recruited to receive: omeprazole 20 mg, amoxicillin 1000 mg and clarithromycin 500 mg all given twice daily for 7 days (OCA regime). Endoscopy with rapid urease test, histology and culture were performed before treatment. Post-treatment H. pylori status was determined by 13C-urea breath test. Metronidazole, clarithromycin and amoxicillin resistance was defined as minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of 〉8 μg/mL, 〉1 μg/mL and 〉1 μg/mL, respectively. Results : A significantly higher (intention-to-treat/per-protocol) eradication rate was found in patients with duodenal ulcer than those with non-ulcer dyspepsia (91/94% vs. 84/88% respectively, P = 0.011 and P = 0.016). Clarithromycin resistance rate was higher in patients with non-ulcer dyspepsia than those with duodenal ulcer (14% vs. 6%, P = 0.015). Clarithromycin resistance (40% vs. 5%, P 〈 0.001, OR 12, 95% CI: 5.7–24.3) and the diagnosis of non-ulcer dyspepsia (91% vs. 84%, P = 0.011, OR 2.0, 95% CI: 1.2–3.3) significantly affected the success of H. pylori eradication. Conclusion : Clarithromycin resistance accounts for the significantly lower and suboptimal H. pylori eradication rate of OCA regimen in Chinese patients with non-ulcer dyspepsia compared to those with duodenal ulcer.

Notes: The ferroelectricity of Bi3.2Sm0.8Ti3O12 (BST) and Bi3.2Sm0.8Ti2.97V0.03O12 (BSTV)ceramics prepared at 1100oC by a conventional ceramic technique is investigated. These ceramics possess random-oriented polycrystalline structure. The remanent polarization (Pr) and coercive field (Ec) of the BST ceramics are 16 µC/cm2 and 62kV/cm, respectively. Furthermore, V5+ substitutionimproves the Pr value of the BST ceramics up to 25µC/cm2, which is larger than that of the BST ceramics. Therefore, the co-substitution of Sm3+ and V5+ in Bi4Ti3O12 (BIT) ceramics is effective for the improvement of its ferroelectricity

Notes: The nano-sized silica particulates reinforced poly(ether ether ketone) (PEEK) compositeswere fabricated by means of simple compression molding technique. The nano-sized silica, measuring 30 nm in size, was firstly modified by surface-pretreatment with stearic acid. Thethermomechanical properties of the resulting PEEK/SiO2 nanocomposites were measured usingdynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) and thermal mechanical analysis (TMA). The TMA resultsshow that the coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) becomes lowered when the content of thenanosilica increases. Furthermore, the CTE of the modified-silica filled PEEK nanocompositesshows higher CTE values, as compared with those of the unmodified counterparts. The dynamicmodulus of the PEEK nanocomposites shows over 40% increment at elevated temperatures from100-250oC, indicating the apparent improvement of elevated temperature mechanical properties

Notes: The parameters of impellers and the pump housing as key assembly to differentialvelocity vane pump of eccentric-noncircular gears has been designed in this paper. By researchingvane spacing angles, vane numbers, vane angle and maximal opening angle on impellers, the resultsare gained that vane spacing angles are the periodic function of noncircular gear angular velocity, vane numbers is identical with centrodes vane numbers of noncircular gear. Assuring right andreliable working to the impellers, numbers, positions and opening angles of the matching holes ofthe pump housing are analyzed; defining that actual impeller vane angle must be less-thantheoretical value, numbers of the matching holes must be vane numbers and opening angles of thematching holes must be less-than theoretical value, which provide the condition for concretestructure design for differential velocity vane pump of eccentric-noncircular gears
