Notes: The kinetics of phase transformations in medium-carbon forging steels (MCFS) have beenmodeled based on CALPHAD multicomponent thermodynamics and the classical nucleation-growththeory. New treatments include the time dependency of parabolic growth rate of proeutectoid ferrite(α) , which account for the soft impingement effect by carbon enrichment in austenite (γ). And apotential transition of γ/α interface equilibrium has also been considered depending on temperaturesand velocity of the moving interface. To make a realistic prediction of the onset of pearlite (P)transformation, a normal distribution of γ grain size has been assumed and successive α→Ptransformation kinetics in each grain size have been summated. The developed program coupled with thermodynamic solver, 'ThermoCalc', calculated the isothermalkinetics of MCFS and has been found to predict well the effect of minor difference of chemicalcomposition / holding temperatures

Notes: A new surface treatment technology for the aluminum alloys that exhibits not only high corrosion and weatherresistance but also good mirror luster has been developed. By performing electrolytic permeation, theimproved corrosion resistance and weather resistance while maintaining a high mirror luster was achieved foran aluminum alloy A2014-T6. The high strength aluminum alloys featuring high corrosion and weatherresistance have been available for industrial products. Then the claim number of the products by A2014 T6aluminum alloy has been reduced sharply to almost zero level in comparison with a past. A few applicationsand the development of the processing in industrial scale in A2014 T6 aluminum alloy will be presented

Notes: Grind gauge is a measuring tool for size of grains or particles included in paint or ink. Itsgeometrical specifications and operational procedure are regulated to some extent and partlystandardized in both ISO and JIS. However, only skilled technician can manage to handle it properlyand to obtain correct measurement results. The objective of this study is to develop an automaticinspection system for the grain or particle size by use of artificial lighting and CCD camera withimage processing techniques. A telecentric lens system was constructed and high resolution CCDcamera was attached to it. Advantages of coaxial illumination and oblique illumination methods wererevealed and their applicability was examined respectively. The optical configuration to cover thescale and the whole groove width of grind gauge was devised so that the captured image data couldcontain both grain/particle distribution and height location. A proper software program followed byimage processing algorithm was established to reveal particle mark and liner mark
