    Notes: The hexagonal crystal structure of AZ31 results in a very high mechanical anisotropy and apoor formability of this alloy. In order to address these problems the influence of twinning, slip anddynamic recrystallization (DRX) on the microstructure and texture evolution during compression ofAZ31 has been studied over a range of temperatures. Cylindrical samples were tested uniaxially incompression from room temperature to 350oC, with the compression axis parallel to either the normaldirection (ND) or the transverse direction (TD) of the hot-rolled sheet from which the samples werecut. The microstructure was characterized using electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD) analysis.Extensive twinning was only observed in the TD samples at all temperatures. The effect of thedifference in twinning and slip between the TD and ND samples on the mechanism of dynamicrecrystallization has also been investigated. For this, the grains formed during DRX were identified bytheir appearance in EBSD orientation maps and the orientations of these grains determined

    Notes: Mucinous metaplasia occurs uncommonly in cutaneous pathology, usually at specialized anatomic locations (genitalia, palms, and soles) and within restricted pathologic contexts (inflammation and trauma). Here, we report a unique case of eccrine mucinous metaplasia associated with an apocrine cystadenoma. A 13-year-old girl had an asymptomatic, 4-mm nodule on the chest. Histopathology demonstrated a typical apocrine cystadenoma in the upper and middle dermis. Adjacent to this lesion was a cluster of coiled eccrine secretory glands, of which the inner layer was almost entirely replaced by benign-appearing cells containing abundant, non-sulfated acid mucopolysaccharides. At 10 months' follow up, there was no recurrence. Our case demonstrates that, very uncommonly, mucinous metaplasia may be associated with a pathogenetically separate, adjacent proliferative adenomatous lesion, in this instance, an apocrine cystadenoma.

    Notes: Due to its intrinsically poor repair potential, injuries to articular cartilage do not heal and clinical intervention is required. Osteochondral grafts may improve healing while promoting integration with host tissue. We report here the development of an osteochondral graft based on a hybrid of a hyrogel and a polymer-bioactive glass composite (PLAGA-BG) microsphere scaffold. This novel osteochondral construct consists of three regions: gel-only, gel/composite interface, and a composite-only-region. The three phases differ in calcium phospate (Ca-P) or BG content. The objective of the current study is to investigate the effects of scaffold composition on chondrocyte response, and to evaluate the effects of co-culture on osteoblasts and chondrocyte growh and differentiation on the hybrid scaffold. The PLAGA-BG microsphere scaffold supported the growth of chondrocytes and initial results indicate that in the presence of BG, chondrocyte-mediated mineralization may be stimulated. Co-culture of osteoblasts and chondrocytes on the multi-phased scaffold with varied Ca-P content facilitated the formation of multiple matrix zones: a GAGrich chondrocyte region, an interfacial matrix rich in GAG+collagen, and a mineralized collagen matrix with osteoblasts. In summary, chondrocyte response has been optimized as a function of scaffold composition and the novel osteochondral graft has the potential to support the simultaneous formation of multiple types of tissue in vitro

    Notes: This paper presents a new magnetic polishing liquid (MPL) produced by mixingsub-micron or micron order abrasive particles into a magnetic compound fluid (MCF) and itsfundamental performance in surface finishing. MCF is an intelligent fluid, which is developed bymixing a magnetic fluid (MF) and a Magneto-rheological fluid (MRF) into a solvent, and hencereacting upon magnetic fields. In the present work, seven kinds of kerosene-based MPLs wereprepared. The hydrodynamic characteristics of MPLs such as the viscosities under different magneticfields were investigated. The obtained result indicated that the viscosity increases with the growing ofthe magnetic field and that the type of MPL affects greatly the viscosity. This phenomenon wasdiscussed by observing the magnetic clusters formed in MPL. It was observed that the magneticclusters are distributed along the magnetic fluxes. An experimental result indicated that the surfaceroughness varies with polishing time and gets smallest at a certain value of magnetic field strength
