Notes: High-strain conditions as a means of microstructure control have recently been investigated to improve theductility and enhance the strength of magnesium alloys. The level of superplastic deformation and the fatigueproperties of the wrought materials have also been studied. In comparison, only a small number of suchreports are available on cast materials. As a part of the search for applications of magnesium alloys, comparisons of structural changes and mechanical properties should be made between wrought and castmaterials. In the present study, the grain refinement of cast and extruded materials made from commerciallyavailable AZ31 magnesium alloy was conducted using a multi-axial alternative forging method. Therelationships between the structural changes and working processes and the relationships between changes inthe mechanical properties as well as grain sizes and fatigue properties are discussed. Both the cast and theextruded materials tended to exhibit uniform crystalline structures with an increasing number of workingcycles. Dynamic recrystallization was observed during both working and static recrystallization during bothreheating and holding. When an equivalent strain of 0.6 was applied, the localized formation of ultra-finegrains of 0.5 μm was observed. The tensile strength and yield stress had maximum values in the initial stageof the multi-axial alternative forging. Although ductility improved with higher numbers of working cycles, the strength decreased. This can be explained by the dynamic and static recrystallization processes and worksoftening

Notes: Magnesium alloys show promise in meeting the demand for materials of lighter weight andhigher rigidity. Mg alloys are hard to process and normally require grain refining for improvedformability and mechanical properties. To process these fine-grained Mg alloys effectively, it isimportant to relate their load stress and mechanical properties to changes in their microstructures.Using a biaxial tensile machine and cruciform specimens, to evaluate the mechanical properties, microstructure, and plasticity, in a high temperature biaxial stress state, used of AZ31 Mg alloy sheet. With biaxial deformation, grain boundary slide occurred more frequently than with uniaxialdeformation, causing grain boundary separation and formation of micro-voids between the grains. Inthe vicinity of the cracks and at the locations of grain boundary separation, although deformationtemperature at higher than the recrystallization temperature, fine grains (about 2 )m) showing induplex grain structures were formed locally. The formation of duplex grain structures as a result oflocal formation of fine grains during the deformation process is a major issue to be solved from theviewpoint of plasticity processing

Notes: Objective  To evaluate the outcome of conservative treatment of young women with endometrial cancer.Design  Observational study.Setting  Gifu University Hospital, Japan from 1988 to 2002.Population  Twelve women with endometrial cancer, FIGO IA estimated by MRI under 35 years. Methods  Patients were treated with medroxyprogestreone acetate (400–600 mg/day) for 6–10 months, with endometrial curettage performed every four weeks.Main outcome measures  Response to therapy, pregnancies and reoccurrence of disease during follow up over a 30-month period. Results  All cases had pathological complete remissions within 6–10 months. Seven of 10 wishing to have babies conceived, and five of them were delivered of full-term babies. Eight of nine cases receiving long term follow up (over 30 months) developed recurrent disease, with four opting for hysterectomy. No patient developed distant metastases or had disease-related death. Conclusion  Conservative therapy is feasible in carefully selected young women with endometrial cancer. Recurrence rates were high during long term observation even after pathological complete remissions. Therefore, close follow up is recommended.

Notes: [Auszug] Thyristors are a class of nonlinear electronic device that exhibit bistable resistance—that is, they can be switched between two different conductance states. Thyristors are widely used as inverters (direct to alternating current converters) and for the smooth control of power in a ...
