    Notizen: Abstract. We consider the resource-bounded measure of polynomial-time learnable subclasses of polynomial-size circuits. We show that if EXP ≠ MA, then every PAC-learnable subclass of P/poly has EXP-measure zero. We introduce a nonuniformly computable variant of resource-bounded measure and show that, for every fixed polynomial q , any polynomial-time learnable subclass of circuits of size q has measure zero with respect to P/poly. We relate our results to the question of whether the class of Boolean circuits is polynomial-time learnable.

    Beschreibung / Inhaltsverzeichnis: Abstract We report on a 13 year old boy after bone marrow transplantation (BMT) who received total parenteral nutrition without vitamins. 15 days after BMT he experienced acute life threatening hyperlactic acidemia refractory to bicarbonate and tris. 100 mg thiamine i.v. resulted in a satisfactory clinical and biochemical response. Conclusion. In any patient under total parenteral nutrition who develops an unexplained hyperlactic acidemia the possibility of thiamine deficiency should be suspected and treated.
    Notizen: Zusammenfassung Es wird über einen 13 Jahre alten Jungen berichtet, der 15 Tage nach Knochenmarktransplantation unter parenteraler Ernährung ohne Vitamine eine auf Bikarbonat- und TRIS-Gaben refraktäre lebensbedrohliche Laktatazidose mit Multiorganversagen entwickelte. Die Gabe von 100 mg Thiamin (Vitamin B1) i. v. führte in wenigen Stunden zur klinischen Besserung und zum Verschwinden der Azidose. Schlussfolgerung. Bei parenteral ernährten Patienten ist bei unklarer Laktatazidose ein Vitamin-B1-Mangel in der Differenzialdiagnose zu berücksichtigen und ein entsprechender Therapieversuch empfehlenswert.

    Notizen: Abstract The binding behaviour as well as the time-dependent reaction of five platinum(II) complexes with 5′-GMP have been investigated by capillary electrophoresis under simulated physiological conditions referred to chloride concentration, pH and temperature. Different amine ligands influenced the binding properties towards 5′-GMP and resulted in different half-times of the overall reaction. Complexes with bidentate ligands reacted faster with the monophosphate compared to complexes with monodentate ligands. Complexes consisting of two monodentate hydroxyethylamine ligands reacted very slowly owing to a competitive intramolecular reaction of the hydroxyethyl residues, which was proven by NMR investigations. Reducing the number of hydroxyethyl residues increased the half-times of the reactions. Moreover, the major adducts formed with 5′-GMP were identified by MALDI-MS analysis.

    Notizen: A purified endocellulase from Sclerotium rolfsii and a crude cellulase preparation from Trichoderma reesei are used to illustrate several pitfalls associated with the assay of carboxymethylcellulase activity and the subsequent attainment of linear enzyme dilution curves. It is shown that the nature of both the enzymes and the substrate make the assay unsuitable for use in the calculation of enzyme recovery and purity.
