Notes: : The effects of erythritol on physical and sensory characteristics of chiffon cakes were studied. The results showed that chiffon cakes prepared with 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% replacement of sucrose with erythritol were lighter in crust and crumb and less sweet in crumbs than those with sucrose. There were no differences in the specific gravity of cake batter, volume, and moisture content between cakes prepared with sucrose or erythritol. Results from sensory evaluation also showed no significant differences in crumb color, moistness, and tenderness for any cakes.

Notes: A 4-m-long elliptically polarizing undulator (EPU5.6) device with an Apple-II structure is installed in the Synchrotron Radiation Research Center storage ring. This is the longest EPU device with an Apple-II structure worldwide. The errors of the magnet construction and the assembly process are among the several factors that can degrade the spectral performance. This study describes the mechanical design concept and construction that reduce magnetic field errors to keep high performance of the magnet. The electron orbit distortion in various polarization radiation modes is discussed with reference to a global feedback system and a feed forward table with following gap and phase. The beam dynamic effects are also investigated when the phase and magnetic gap are changed. © 2002 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: The pulsed wire method for magnetic field measurement has been developed by several groups. In most cases the thin wires were used and only the short magnets were measured to ignore the dispersion due to stiffness of the wires. In the application to the long insertion devices, a lot of spurious signals occurred and contaminated the normal field signals. In this article we demonstrate a new approach to applying the pulsed wire method to a long insertion undulator with a high field. Thick wire is used instead. Then we can cancel the dispersion and trace back the normal field signal by using the fast Fourier transform calculation. The results are quite comparable to Hall probe measurement. © 2002 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: Esomeprazole, the S-isomer of omeprazole, is the first proton pump inhibitor to be developed as an optical isomer. In patients with erosive oesophagitis, esomeprazole has produced significantly greater healing rates and improved symptom resolution vs. omeprazole.〈section xml:id="abs1-2"〉〈title type="main"〉Aim:This study assesses the efficacy of esomeprazole for preventing relapse in patients with healed oesophagitis.〈section xml:id="abs1-3"〉〈title type="main"〉Methods:In this 6-month US multicentre randomized double-blind placebo-controlled trial, 375 Helicobacter pylori-negative patients with endoscopically healed oesophagitis received esomeprazole 40 mg, 20 mg, 10 mg, or placebo once daily. The primary efficacy end-point was maintenance of healing at 6 months. Secondary end-points assessed changes in symptoms, and long-term safety and tolerability.〈section xml:id="abs1-4"〉〈title type="main"〉Results:Significantly (P 〈 0.001) more patients remained healed with esomeprazole 40 mg (87.9%), 20 mg (78.7%), or 10 mg (54.2%), than with placebo (29.1%). Relapse, when it occurred, was later with esomeprazole. Sustained resolution of heartburn was observed in the 40 mg and 20 mg groups; there was a high correlation between absence of heartburn and maintenance of healing. Adverse effects were mild, infrequent and not significantly different between groups.〈section xml:id="abs1-5"〉〈title type="main"〉Conclusions:Esomeprazole is effective and well-tolerated in the maintenance of healing of erosive oesophagitis. Esomeprazole 40 mg and 20 mg offer significant clinical benefit to patients.

Notes: Abstract. The charge and transition form factors of pions ( $F_\pi$ , $F_{\pi\gamma}$ , and $F_{\pi\gamma^*}$ ) are studied in the light-front quark model (LFQM). We find that our results for $F_\pi$ and $F_{\pi\gamma}$ agree well with experiment. Furthermore, the mixing of $\eta$ and $\eta'$ is considered. We also calculate $F_{\eta\gamma}$ and $F_{\eta'\gamma}$ and compare them with the data.

Notes: Abstract. We calculate the electromagnetic (EM) form factors of the pseudoscalar mesons in the light-front framework. Specifically, these form factors are directly extracted from the relevant matrix elements, instead of choosing the Breit frame. The results show that the charge radius of the meson is related to both the first and second longitudinal momentum square derivatives of the momentum distribution function. The static properties of the EM form factors and the heavy quark symmetry of the charge radii are checked analytically in the heavy quark limit. In addition, we use the Gaussian-type wavefunction to obtain the numerical results.
