Notes: Abstract The overdamped motion of a particle controlled by a time-correlated random force in a spatially periodic potential is studied theoretically. The correlation time of the force is essentially assumed to be much greater than the time required for the particle to traverse one period of the potential. It is demonstrated that a bimodal distribution of the force optimizes the control for power demand.

Notes: A constructive algorithm is proposed for the investigation of symmetries of partial differential equations. The algorithm is used to present classical Lie symmetries of systems of two nonlinear reaction diffusion equations. © 2001 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: Abstract An osteoconductive biocomposite BAK-1000 is developed, which consists of hydroxyapatite and a silicate matrix similar in its chemical composition to sodium-calcium feldspars. The morphological studies of BAK-1000 biocomposite gave foundations for a conjecture concerning the mechanism of the deposition of collagen, which is the first product of osteogenesis, on the surface of the open pores of the material in a living organism with the formation of strong chemical bonds. Implant sets for maxillofacial surgery and neurosurgery were developed on the basis of BAK-1000 biocomposite and implemented in clinical practice.

Notes: Abstract The naturally occurring compounds of thorium ThSiO4, ThSiO4· nH2O, and (Th, Fe)SiO4 and uranium USiO4· nH2O have been studied by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy in the range of electron binding energies from 0 to 1200 eV. The oxidation state of Th in the natural compounds is close to that in Th(OH)4; for uranium, it is similar to that in UO2. Based on the structure of the low-energy electron spectra it is assumed that the electrons of the filled Th6p- and O2s-atomic orbitals take an active part in chemical bonding. Fine structure was observed in the Th(U)6s-, 5d-, 5p-, 4f-, 4d-, and 4p 3/2 electron spectra of all substances under study. Mechanisms of fine structure formation are discussed and the fine structure parameters are correlated with the physicochemical properties of the compounds.
