    Notizen: Stearic acid methyl esters was enzymatically interesterified with fish oil (EPAX 5500) containing 44.5 and 32.6 mol% eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA, C20:5n-3) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA, C22:6n-3), respectively. Lipozyme TL IM from Thermomyces lanuginosus was used to produce structured lipids (SL) that may be suitable for margarine or shortening application. Interesteri-fication was performed in hexane. Fish oil: stearic acid methyl ester levels ranging from 1 to 5 mole ratio was used. The effect of incubation time, substrate ratio and incubation temperature were also studied. Generally, as incubation time and substrate ratio increased, so did the mol % incorporation of stearic acid. After 24 h incubation in hexane, there was a 49.4 mol% incorporation of stearic acid into fish oil, while the mol% of EPA and DHA were reduced to 15.0 and 13.0 mol%, respectively. Time course studies also indicated that the highest stearic acid incorporation occurred at 72 h while 1:Sjish oil to stearic acid mole ratio gave the highest stearic acid incorporation. The data suggests that Lipozyme Ti5 IM could be used to produce SL.

    Notizen: Abstract Shock-induced yield enhancement has been observed in implantation of recoil atoms into metallocene and itsβ-cyclodextrin (CD) inclusion compounds, as in the case of metalβ-diketonate compounds previously studied. The enhancement, however, occurs at much lower energy compared with that in metalβ-diketonates. In acetylruthenocene and benzoylruthenocene-β-CD inclusion compounds, various aspects of ‘molecular rocket reaction’ have been discussed.

    Notizen: Abstract Objectives: Chronopharmacokinetics of drugs metabolized by cytochrome P 450 3A (CYP3A) has been reported recently; however, little is studied on intra-individual circadian variation in CYP3A activity in human. The aim of this study was to assess the intra-individual diurnal variation and day-to-day variation of the urinary 6β-hydroxycortisol to cortisol ratio, a noninvasive index of human CYP3A activity. Methods: Urine samples from ten healthy Japanese men were collected over four time intervals (0900 hours to 1300 hours, 1300 hours to 1700 hours, 1700 hours to 2100 hours and 2100 hours to 0900 hours) on days 1, 5 and 14 to verify diurnal variation, and 24-h urine was collected to study day-to-day variation over 2 weeks. Urinary 6β-hydroxycortisol and cortisol were determined by means of high-performance liquid chromatography/atmospheric pressure chemical ionization–mass spectrometry. Results: The ratio of urinary 6β-hydroxycortisol to cortisol exhibited noteworthy diurnal variation intra-individually; 2.8-fold on average. However, day-do-day intra-individual variation of the ratio was not observed over 2 weeks; the coefficient of variation was 11.9 ± 3.0%. Conclusion: The result indicates that imprudent use of random urine has a great risk of false evaluation in assessment of the 6β-hydroxycortisol to cortisol ratio and that the ratio in 24-h urine samples provides a more robust measure of the inter-individual difference of this metabolic ratio, which to a certain but not complete extent represents the CYP3A activity.

    Notizen: Abstract Three novel homeobox genes, PKn1–3 (Pharbitis knotted-like), were isolated from Japanese morning glory (Pharbitis nil Chois, strain Violet). A sequence analysis showed that these genes belong to the knotted class-1 gene family and that PKn3 has a relatively unique sequence. All PKn genes are expressed in shoot apices, stems and roots, but not in cotyledons. Transformed tobacco with PKn1 or PKn2 displayed leaf shrinkage and a dwarf phenotype, while the ectopic expression of PKn3 gave no altered phenotypes. In situ hybridization showed that PKn3 is up-regulated in developing leaf primordia and that this expression becomes restricted in the basal region of young leaf blades, which is reminiscent of the expression pattern of the class-2 knotted gene, NTH23. These data suggest that these Pharbitis homeobox genes participate in the differentiation in shoots and suggest a unique function of PKn3 in developing leaves.

    Notizen: Abstract YbBa 2 Cu 4 O 8 (Yb124) films were prepared on SrTiO 3 (001) and SrTiO 3 (110) substrates by coating-pyrolysis process at ambient pressure, and the alignments of these films were investigated by XRD θ-2θ scanning and XRD pole-figure analysis. Films prepared on SrTiO 3 (001) consisted of almost single-phase [001]-oriented epitaxial Yb124. On the other hand, films on SrTiO 3 (110) consisted of [107]-oriented epitaxial Yb124 and other impurity phases, one of which was considered to be so-called “other perovskite” phase.

    Notizen: Abstract Transparent glass-ceramics containing LiGa5O8∶Cr3+ crystallites have been prepared by heat treatment of Li2O-Ga2O3-SiO2-Cr2O3 glassy material. Average crystallite size evaluated from the full-width at half-maximum of the X-ray diffraction lines varies from about 3–7 nm as the heat-treatment temperature increases from 650 °C to 800 °C. The ligand field strength of the Cr3+ ion estimated from optical absorption measurements increases with an increase in the heat-treatment temperature. The fluorescence spectra of the glass-ceramics resemble that of LiGa5O8∶ Cr3+ polycrystal. In particular, for the specimen containing a crystallite of 7 nm, intense emission due to the 2E→4A2 transition has been observed. These optical measurements demonstrate that the Cr3+ ions are incorporated into LiGa5O8 microcrystals in the present glass-ceramics. For the transparent glass-ceramics and LiGa5O8∶Cr3+ polycrystal, the temperature dependence of the peak position of the zero-phonon line (R-line) has been analysed assuming that the electronic transition is described by the Raman process and the vibrational density of state is expressed by the Debye model. The Debye temperature of the transparent glass-ceramics is slightly lower than that of LiGa5O8∶ Cr3+ polycrystal, indicating that the softening of the phonon occurs in the LiGa5O8∶Cr3+ microcrystal precipitated in the transparent glass-ceramics.

    Notizen: Abstract In case of radioactive fallout, persistence of long lived nuclides in soil and subsequent transfer into the food chain through plants over a long period is the key factor. The possibility of “phytoremediation” is suggested to reduce the radionuclides in soil. To exploit the natural potential of some plants in absorbing or accumulating certain radionuclides and depleting the soil radioactivity, thirty-two plant species were tested under laboratory conditions for their comparative ability in taking up radioactive Rb, Co, Sr and Cs. Broccoli and tomato for Co, tomato, chard, sunflower and cucumber for Rb; cucumber, sunflower and turnip (Kyona) for Sr, and tomato, chard and cucumber for Cs were found to be effective compared to other species tested.

    Notizen: Abstract The uptake rate of95mTc,83Rb, and65Zn by soybean plants cultivated in soil was measured during 2≈247 hrs by a multitracer technique. The uptake amount in most of the leaves and stems increased up to 150≈200 hrs after the administration of the multitracer and then decreased with time. The uptake amount of65Zn in the youngest fruit increased until 120 hrs and then decreased with time, and83Rb uptake reached almost a constant amount after 120 hrs. On the other hand, the uptake amount of95mTc in the youngest fruit increased continuously up to 247 hrs. The behavior of elements in the leaves and stems was analyzed mathematically with the second order function,A r=c+k1t+k2t2, 0〈t=247, whereA is the amount of uptake or translocation of elementr in each part of plants,c is a constant,t is cultivating time after the multitracer has been added,k 1 andk 2 are coefficient oft andt 2, respectively.

    Notizen: Abstract The direct absorption of atmospheric elements via soybean leaves has been studied using a radioactive multitra œr technique. Soybean was cultivated until it bore seeds in a box under no-rain conditions and with introduction of multitracer-adsorbed cellulose powders. The radioactive nuclides of 40 elements were produced from Au target irradiated with14N, and the nuclides with relatively long half-life of the elements Sc, Mn, Co, As, Se, Rb, Sr, Y, Eu, Gd, Yb, Re, and Ir were dominantly observed in each part of soybean plant.
