Notes: Abstract The range of theN¯N interaction is re-examined. We find that differences in theN¯N models do have an influence on the region where annihilation predominantly takes place. AN¯N model derived consistently within meson theory leads to an annihilation range around 1 fm in spite of the small Compton wavelength of the exchanged baryons usually advocated in range arguments.

Notes: Abstract In a recent CERN Drell-Yan experiment the NA51 group found a strong asymmetry of −u and ¯d densities in the proton atx ≌ 0.18. We interpret this result as a confirmation of the pion-induced sea in the nucleon.

Notes: Abstract: Detailed analysis of the log-periodic structures as precursors of the financial crashes is presented. The study is mainly based on the German Stock Index (DAX) variation over the 1998 period which includes both, a spectacular boom and a large decline, in magnitude only comparable to the so-called Black Monday of October 1987. The present example provides further arguments in favour of a discrete scale-invariance governing the dynamics of the stock market. A related clear log-periodic structure prior to the crash and consistent with its onset extends over the period of a few months. Furthermore, on smaller time-scales the data seems to indicate the appearance of analogous log-periodic oscillations as precursors of the smaller, intermediate decreases. Even the frequencies of such oscillations are similar on various levels of resolution. The related value of preferred scaling ratios is amazingly consistent with those found for a wide variety of other complex systems. Similar analysis of the major American indices between September 1998 and February 1999 also provides some evidence supporting this concept but, at the same time, illustrates a possible splitting of the dynamics that a large market may experience.

Notes: Abstract We study the influence of the nuclear polarizability on isomer shifts. For the quadrupole contribution, we can compare our numerical results to previous investigations of Reiner and Wilets. The agreement is quite good. The polarization contribution to the isomer shift is directly proportional to the non-energy weighted sum ofB (E λ)-@#@ values from the ground and isomer states respectively. Although the absolute effects are quite large, there tends to be a cancellation effect for the differences between the two states. This is illustrated, albeit rather crudely, by two different model calculations. Since the polarization effect is, like the volume effect, directly proportional to the electron density at the nucleus, the extraction ofΔ ψ(0)2-values from isomer shift measurements remains unaffected. The nuclear parameter, however, contains in general a polarization contribution.

Notes: Abstract. The near threshold behaviour of the reaction cross section for pp→ppη′, recently measured in experiments at COSY and SATURNE, is analyzed. The interaction in the pp as well as in the η′ p final states is taken into account. The suppression of the total cross section for this process at excess energies Q 〈 3 MeV observed in these experiments is interpreted as an evidence for a strong repulsive η′ p interaction.

Notes: Abstract The charge density differences between208Pb and206Pb as well as between206Pb and205Tl have been calculated within the generalized theory of finite Fermi systems. Here one describes206Pb and205Tl as correlated two-neutron hole states and two-neutron hole one-proton hole states in208Pb, respectively. We discuss the spectroscopic strength of the 3s-hole and argue that the remaining difference between the theoretical and experimental charge distributions may be connected with the range of validity of Landau's quasi particle concept.
